I was in the middle of the crowd for the Killers set and everywhere I looked there was people dancing and singing along. There was a guy with a mohawk in front of me totally enjoying himself, but as soon as he saw that Atmosphere’s set was about to start he took off. My point is people do love the Killers, but it’s a festival, writer of a crappy article, of course people are going to take off during the last show of a night. They’re either exhausted, hungry, or they leave it early to go check out another favorite band playing at the same time. A girl standing next to me said she choose not to see Paul McCartney the night before because she was so tired. My point is no matter who’s playing, somebody’s going to leave! The Killers were an inspiring set, so don’t believe this writer’s sad attempt at being oh so intricate and intelligent in dissing the Killers’ set.
Pastorek is such a wanna be indie… The Killers are so f*cking huge in Europe, where the people have better taste in music then the collective EW “music critics”. FYI, MIA sucks… and if she continues to be praised for her “work” i’m gonna slit my wrists.
I saw The Killers in January in Atlanta. I think they are fantastic in concert. Too bad I am nowhere near the festival… I would have enjoyed being able to get up close.
I agree with this article.. the problems with The Killers are:
1) Their first album was their best, and the last 2 just don’t cut it.
2) You’re exactly right–their hits are catchy, and the other songs are missing good melodies.
3) The Killers aren’t a good headliner because you can’t dance OR rock out to their music.. two things to make a show fun.
I went to Seattle’s music festival Bumbershoot last summer, and Stone Temple Pilots headlined. They filled Memorial Football Stadium–people filled the football field AND the stands. And I didn’t even know their music, but I stayed because they were awesome live. That’s the kind of band they need to headline, not some hipster band with 3 mediocre albums.
The Killers are fantastic. It’s too bad they’re not as appreciated as a band as they should be.
i really hate ew magazine
sucks to be you
Sorry, sara, but you are incorrect. You can rock out AND dance to the Killers. Proof: When You Were Young and Somebody Told Me, respectively. Case closed. Clearly you have never seen them live.
Thank you for the kind words about Paolo Nutini and the Vipers. They are constantly evolving and their music stands alone. We will be seeing them in Portland, Spokane & Seattle in a few days and look forward to a great show. Cat
Clearly, someone has an axe to grind.
The killers are amazing
please, less about the reviewer, more about the music
I think the more pressing question than any you’ve listed in your last paragraph, Whitney, is WHY oh WHY do you still have a job at EW? I’ve never read any review written by you that was not tediously laden with lame disses for the sake of looking snarky and cool. When you can write an accurate depiction full of substance, one that isn’t all about your hang ups rather than you know facts, I’ll worry about the Killers. Until then, it sounds like the thousands of people who were paying attention rather than worrying how to get the hell out of the ridiculous parking situation got a helluva show.
Sara:”I agree with this article.. the problems with The Killers are:

1) Sam’s Town is the best cohesive Killer’s album, although All These Things That I’ve Done is the strongest song in their setlist and that of course comes from Hot Fuss.
2) Say what?
3) The Killers genre is classified as dance rock. Dance and rock being the operative words. I doubt you know enough about the band or their albums to weigh in on this subject if you’ve made such a ludicrous statement.
4) You can’t compare an STP concert to a Killers concert. Half the fun of an STP concert is finding out if Weiland managed to stay clean long enough to fufill his concert obligations, because the answer is not always yes.
The Killers, while adequate, are excessively overexposed. They to go away for AT LEAST TWO YEARS with Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and every overexposed, overrated, ubiquitous medium-sized talent currently plaguing us.
I think like any review, it’s all opinion. I just read MTV’s review of the concert where they said M.I.A was not so good, while the Killers commanded the crowd…then the LA Times wrote a review praising the Killers performance…all the negative reviews seem to focus on The Killers following what people keep referring to as the ‘spectacle’ that M.I.A. put on– my favorite is from Spin where it says that the Killers were just too polished to follow M.I.A….I don’t understand any of it. Everyone that I know who was there said there were people all around them…as for mad dashes, it’s a festival, that’s what happens some times. I went to All Points West last year, I saw Animal Collective and KOL who were opening for Radiohead. As soon as KOL finishd, I dashed to catch the rest of the Roots set before heading home to beat traffic…Radiohead played over head as I headed home…the point is people move around at festivals…that’s just the nature of it.
Oh and one more thing, I like the Killers lots, but there is no need to say negative things about STP or Scott Weiland. He’s come a long way from his past problems.
