John Rich got some serious star power on board for his new "Shuttin’ Detroit Down" video. Yep, that’s Kris Kristofferson getting the axe after 32 years at the same auto plant, and Mickey Rourke losing his temper on his co-worker’s behalf. Watch Rich’s recession drama below, then let us know what you think of the song and video.

Country music is always quick to respond to what is happening in the US (Toby Keith after 9/11, Alan Jackson, etc), especially when it comes to the average American. I am sure this will be a hit song for John Rich…love Kris and Mickey in this together, this could become a CMT movie, much like some of Travis Tritt’s videos did.
Well, I guess I should say like Travis Tritt’s trilogy of videos, not so much a movie.
I’ll say — this makes up for “Raisin’ McCain.” It’s tragic that such things are actually happening like this across the country.
THANK YOU JOHN RICH for your compassion, for your song, and for what you said last night on Sean Hannity’s America show…most of us true Americans are fed up with what is happening to our country – right in front of our eyes. I hope your words, and our concerns will not fall on deaf ears. God be with us all.
It’s damn hard to see something this moving and not be touched and Kristofferson and Rourke are incredible. I wish there was an easy answer to this problem. One things for sure, running up a budget deficit of 12.8 Trillion dollars. We had a real problem back in September 2008 but by comparison to what this administration has done that was a cake walk. This is what the TEA parties are about!
yes, it’s happening all around us in every industry. We must all invest in ourselves to have the versatility to adapt to whatever situation arises, just like a cameleon.
Most of us are also guilty of living beyond our means by using our credit cards and purchasing things that we really don’t need. We’re also too lazy to cook and love to eat out way more than we should for both financial and health reasons.
Whatever happened to “saving for a rainy day?” Why do we need to spend whatever excess we have after our bills are paid? That’s if we caneven pay our bills on time.
Did we really have to refinance our mortgage back then and pull out that equity. Where did all that equity money go anyway?
Let’s all pool together and figure this thing out. Let’s grab a piece of paper, a pencil and write down our budget and eliminate all unnecessary spending until things improve. Let’s stay positive, eat better, exercise, read more, help others, and pray to God daily.
The video is so touching because it’s true, it’s happening everywhere. Warren, I must say I’m guilty of a lot what you said in your comments. This weekend, I plan to sit down and go over my budget and aim to be more versatile and financially disciplined.
being from Detroit this is the kind of stuff going on all over. Detroit wasn’t perfect but high wages, great benefits and retiree pensions was pushed and embraced by Washington. Things change and you bail on them. The Auto’s created America’s middle class…take over their retiree liabilities and they’re fine. Not good enough for Washington. They’re busting the unions…something corporate America never could do.
I’m from the Detroit area, and this video gave me a lump in my throat. I’m the first one in 5 generations not to work in the auto industry. Today, I could not get one of those good jobs if I begged.
Can’t argue with his intentions, but I found the song and especially the video a little ham-fisted. John Rich is no Springsteen. This doesn’t compare to My Hometown, The River, Born in the USA, Atlantic City . . .
Springsteen is a pinko and a sellout. We will all pay for your idol worship, a socialist is somebody who doesn’t have anything at stake…currently! God Bless America and the American Worker!
The video and words are phenomenal. Thank you, John, for what you’re signing about. I feel like I’m living through Woodstock and the flower children again, in this country. The suicides and heart attacks have only just begun. God bless America!
I come from where John was raised (the panhandle of TEXAS)and we all think like this folks.God ,country, family and honor.Seems like those folks up in DC need to reilize they work for us.Go to the next tea party near you if you can.
right on—right on! i’m going out to buy the cd my heart is breaking for my fellow michiganders thank you for sharing the song and video god bless detroit!
Kudos to John Rich this is happening all over America while the fat cats and the government dont care we just gave billions of bailout money to GM and now they might still go bankrupt while the workers suffer. John Rich shows the spirit of the Americans we are hard workers, with values and deserve better than what we are getting
