'Too Fake,' indeed! Is it just us, or is this Hockey song a bit of a ripoff?

This recent single from Portland, Oregon based band Hockey — whose album comes out on Capitol in August — is catchy enough. But it sounds a lot like a much better song by LCD Soundsystem, "Daft Punk Is Playing at my House." Is this just a coincidence, or an outrageous act of theft? Opinions around our office differ, so we’re opening it up to you. Check out both tunes below and tell us what you think.

Sounds really similar. But it’s moot to me because the the Hockey song is totally lame. “Oh my gosh, the singer sounds a little wasted. And angsty! How edgy!!!!”

Sorry, no, I don’t think they sound alike. When I heard Too Fake on nme radio, I thought the talking-singing bits (wait, wait, wait,LOOK OUT!)were hilarious. It’s more like United States of Whatever, actually. But LCD rocks. Always does.

It’s not even close to being similar. They both have electronic sounds so that makes one a copy of the other? Your take on this is terrible. Hockey is a good band. How about you listen to their record and then try to find more tracks that are copies of others… they’re good and you’re going to be hearing a lot more from them.
