It’s the time of year when precocious youngsters pose for pictures on their front lawns and fumble with corsages. Yes, it’s prom season, and like most other high-school-related things we remember (or try to forget), there’s a soundtrack attached. All I remember thinking during my prom (besides cursing myself for spending so much money on that damn sparkly dress) was, "Who the hell picked this song?" My Class of 2002′s prom song was "There You’ll Be," a terribly mediocre track (by Faith Hill) from a terribly mediocre movie (Pearl Harbor.) Because nothing says awkward slow dance like reflecting on one of our nation’s great tragedies! Not that I had the highest expectations for that evening, but this was the best they could do? Isn’t there an entire Boyz II Men catalog devoted to this stuff? Maybe we just came of age in the wrong prom-song era, but I know there have got to be some gems out there. So how about it, Music Mixers? Did you sway to KC & JoJo’s "All My Life" or Eve 6′s "Here’s to the Night"? Or did you avoid eye contact throughout Lionel Richie and Diana Ross’ "Endless Love? Share your prom-song hits and misses below.

our song was “say hello, goodbye”
Phil Collins, No Jacket Required
it was only available on the CD.
It was 1987. The DJ did not have a CD player, so it was never played…
We voted for “Another Brick in the Wall” but the school administrators wouldn’t allow it to be played (We don’t need no education…) so we got stuck with the theme from Mahogany (Do you know where you’re going to…) by Diana Ross. Yuck!
oh good grief…drops of jupiter by train was played over and over and over…

My class of 2002′s prom song was Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”. I can’t complain about the song choice. The prom itself, however…..that’s another story.
My first prom (gf was a senior, I wa s ajunior) was 1990 – Billy Joel’s “This is the Time”. Not that danceable, but it wasn;t horrendous. My senior prom the next year, the class voted and chose John Lennon’s “Imagine”. The main reason being that the class president was a bit of a burn-out with a crazy hippy mom – who also happened to teach chemistry in that school. Brings a whole new meaning to better living through chemistry …

Time of your Life by Green Day
My class of 2005 prom song was “These Are The Times” by Dru Hill…which is about a guy telling his girlfriend that he won’t pressure her into having sex. The students picked the song. Yes, my class and the prom were super lame.
As my prom was back in 1977, it’s hard to remember what THE song of the night was – I do remember, however, that Heatwave’s “Always And Forever” was the record that wouldn’t die! Can’t tell you how many times that one was played at dances, weddings, etc. AAAAGGHHHHH!
My prom song in 1992 was Boyz II Men “End of the Road” Being from New Jersey we wanted Bon Jovi “Never Say Goodbye” but the prom advisor said no because of the line, “You lost more in my backseat”
The theme for my prom in 1998 was Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from ‘Titanic.’ There was NO escaping that song back then, lemme tell ya!
I actually think that Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be” was a good song for prom. You have to admit that there weren’t many ballads released in early 2000s, but there were plenty of dance songs!
Sara Mcclaughlin “I Will Remember You” TERRIBLE!
