Jordin Sparks debuted a new song on American Idol last night (the episode that will henceforth be known as the one that finally and emphatically put the ‘go’ in Gokey). She follows in the footsteps of Chris Daughtry, whose band debuted "No Surprises" the week before. (Quick fact: the Daughtry song is already #15 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Be prepared to hear that song ad nauseam in the weeks to come.)
Sparks’ new song is the Ryan Tedder-penned mid-tempo jam "Battlefield," off her sophomore album, which is due July 14. "Battlefield" definitely sounds familiar (and not just because of the Pat Benatar connection), but on the scale of barf-tastic ("One Step At a Time") to the hey-I-kinda-like-it ("No Air"), the tune comfortably falls in the middle. To quote the most eloquent Idol judge: For me, it was just alright. For me. But how about for you? And I could just have bad hearing, but I seriously thought Sparks was saying "bitch-er-ama" at the end. But then I realized a) that doesn’t even make sense, b) the squeaky-clean daughter of Phillipe would never say such things, and c) she’s actually saying "get your armor." My bad. Share your thoughts, Mixers: What do you think of Sparks’ new song?

I love the song and I hope it’s a huge hit for Jordin! It does sound a bit like Bleeding Love meets Halo, but that isn’t a bad thing.
I heard it on American Idol last night and thought that her performance was very Beyonce-esque. I was feeling it. The song was alright. It does sound like pretty much every other song on pop radio right now.
Pat Benetar connection!!! You are reaching here. When she performed that song live, the stage was a Battlefield and we are all victims for sitting through it. I wish I had my armor prior to its start. http://musiciansear.blogspot.com/
Ignore the naysayers – the song “Battlefield” is a smash-hit waiting to happen with an undeniable and memorable hook coupled with the right singer. Score another one for Ryan Tedder! More importantly, Jordin’s interpretation of “Battlefield” was phenomenal as she gave her most self-assured performance yet. The song rocked and she showed, once again, that she can REALLY SING (note to Katy Perry)! I was thrilled to see that this former Idol winner has finally grown into her crown.
i really liked it..I’m going to support her because She is David’s celebraty crush and he loves her..so i’m going to request her new song..
The song was just okay.
But I like Jordin Sparks anyway. She has a great voice and she has a great look.
Give her time. She has potential.
It was so-so.

Normal reactions. If you’re a fan, its great/a hit. If you’re not, its so-so. If you’re a hatter, you’re a victim of an overreach. HA! HA!
Me? I have downloaded it already.
I ended up fast forwarding through it. I heard part of it on iTunes and I am just not into mid-tempo songs like this. Plus, part of what I heard sounded like she was talking about sleeping with someone and she still seems a bit young for that – or like that is not her image. Whatever. I still like her though and thought she looked great last night.
JORDIN #! ALL TIME!!
LOVE THAT GIRL!!!
#1 HIT!!
I thought she was pitchy in parts (which I hated because she was my favorite during season 6), but I like Jordin the person, so of course I am all for her song.
I realize that she is not gearing her music towards my taste (I am an older Black female), but I still wish her much success in the age group that likes her music.
I did like her “No Air” song, but without Chris Brown, it wouldn’t have gotten played on any R&B stations, because she is not an R&B artist…
truly a talent and one off the the most uderratted people on idol, great song and performance on idol
I’m with Agram. But I also like One Step at a Time…
I loved Jordin’s performance last night. The song will be a #1 hit. I agree with yayra that Jordin is underrated. She looked fantastic last night.
So-so. Agree with others that it was pitchy and Beyonce-esque and not memorable. She’s very pretty though.
