Quentin Tarantino is a filmmaker known for his unlikely or obscure but often brilliant musical choices (Pulp Fiction, anyone? Reservoir Dogs?) on screen. The Cannes press kit for his World War II epic, Inglourious Basterds, seems to indicate that he’ll rely heavily on Ennio Morricone’s score, but there are a couple of interesting picks.
Among them? Billy Preston’s title song for the 1972 Jim Brown-starring exploitation movie Slaughter and David Bowie’s "Cat People (Putting Out The Fire)," which originally appeared on the soundtrack of director Paul Schrader’s 1982 Cat People remake. Below you can check out both "Cat People" and the trailer for Slaughter: "Jim Brown is Slaughter! It’s not only his name, it’s his business!" Classic stuff.
So, Music Mixers, does this news whet your appetite for Basterds? And what’s your favorite Tarantino musical moment?
