The year in 90′s comebacks continued last night with punk-pop trio Blink 182 gracing the stage of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for the first of two back-to-back performances. Their song selection? "The Rock Show," off 2001′s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.
For me, it was hard not to get all nostalgic seeing Mark, Tom and Travis back together for the first time in five years. Sure, they played a tune that’s nearly eight years old. And yeah, Mark Hoppus’ voice sounded out-of-practice. But gosh darn it, there’s something endearing about these aging rock stars’ exuberance and lack of irony. Fans should tune into Leno again this evening, where they’re expected to perform "All the Small Things." Those clamoring for new music might have to sit tight, however. Hoppus told the Los Angeles Times they might only unveil one new song while on tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy this summer. Weezer + Fall Out Boy + Blink 182: How many of you are going? And what did you think of Blink’s first televised performance since 2004? Watch it below and share.

i love it!! haha takes you back to a simpler time…pre-crack britney, no miley cyrus, jonas who?…its pronounced hanson!
i’m so happy to see them back together! i thought the performance was great, although “the rock show” isn’t really one of my favorites. of all the 90′s combacks, blink is the one i’m most excited about by far.
I like Blink because they don’t take themselves seriously, they are all about having some fun which rock n’ roll is supposed to be about. Tired of bands with “messages” or political agenda. Weezer and Blink, good tour, with Fall Out Boy, not so much.
I was ready to check out the tour, but Blink isn’t playing anywhere near me, unfortunately. I never had a chance to see them live and though they sound (and look) great here, I don’t think it’s road-trip worthy. I’d definitely buy a new album, if they get around to making one.
Honestly, i thought they sucked on leno. Theyve grown apart alot its gonna be hard for them to get back in it. Tom was goin angels and airwaves on one side and marks trying to sound eight years younger. They werent even staying on beat. Nice try though, but im gonna stay with indie rock from now on, screw major labels!
You made an error in your article. This is not their first performance since 2004, they performed last week at the T-Mobile SideKick event.
I don’t understand what Tom is doing. I’m SO ANNOYED by this!!! I’m a huge Blink fan and also a HUGE Angels and Airwaves fan. Tom is singing in his Angels and Airwaves voice with these familiar Blink songs and it doesn’t sound right! It actually sounds HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I just want him to STOP I have so much respect for this man and all of his artistic endeavors, but if he does NOT stop singing Blink songs in that STRANGE voice I don’t know if I’m going to be able to deal!!!!!

I love Blink 182, I have seen them in concert several times, and I still rock out to their cds. I was excited when I heard they are back, making a cd, and going to be on Leno. Then they sang. What was Tom thinking? Is he showing us his “mature” side? It was like he was singing opera. It looked like Mark and Travis were ready to rock out. Oh, and whats with the Buddy Holly guitar Tom had? I hope they change it to the old Blink.
that is actually horrible horrible horrible
Tom looked and sounded awful. What is he doing with the faces? And singing like a drunk clown who just sucked down a balloon full of helium. Apparently he thinks it sounds good because he did it both nights. Having fun and rock’n out is one thing (or even a raw sound) but that was prettty bad. Not to mention 3 thirty-somthings trying to recapture the glory days after realizing they aren’t that good alone and it was a once in a life time success story. Move on and maybe somedays you won’t be embarrassed to tell your kids about the “good ole days.”
Ya ya ya, so what about Tom’s new style!? blink182 is back, and thats all that matters, The Rock Show was amazing!
I hate to get involved in such things most of the time, but in regards to the comment on Tom’s “Buddy Holly guitar” and him going back to his old one. I get the idea of what you’re saying but, in reality Buddy Holly actually played a Fender Stratocaster.
.
Which happens to be what Tom’s old guitar was in the early Blink days.
Regarding Blink-182, they hadn’t gotten together because their “solo careers” weren’t going well.. (they actually were doing just fine).
They reunited after Travis’ accident and regained their friendship which was lost when Tom left the band previously for undisclosed reasoning.
They are only continuing where they left off, not attempting to live in their passed days and if you think about it. Their “Greatest Hits” record came out after the break up, and there never was a tour
Along with that, I think last night’s performance of “The Rock Show” sounded great, Mark’s vocals seemed really solid.. especially if you’ve ever seen Blink 182 performances of the past. Aside, tonight’s performance of “All The Small Things” was a bit off, it seemed Mark and Travis were pretty on but Tom’s vocals were back and forth. I think he may still be in a bit of an AVA vocal style mode, the more “operatic” not holds as someone else mentioned.
In conclusion, I think this Summer’s tour will be great. Not really a Fall Out Boy fan.. but I can get through it. Let’s not got too analytical over this all though, it is Blink 182.. it is bound to be a great time.
Looking forward to it!

i thought they did great on the rock show. i do agree that all the small things could have been better; it sounded like tom’s voice was stretched between his blink sound and his ava sound. it was only their third performance in five years though; they’ve all changed and they just need to adjust, i guess. they’re still an amazing band, and i still think they were fine.
