“Some doth protest too much, methinks.” Some may not like it but in no way is it as horrible as some are pretending around here. I think some people just have to be anti this or that.

I like the glee version better partly because I love the way they used the voices of the singers as most of the accompaniment. But then again, the original song seems more appropriate for the time and the Glee version seems better for the two thousands. But the biggest reason I love the Glee version is because
THE HARMONIES FREAKING ROCK! And Lea Michelle and Cory Monteith’s voices mesh so well

OH and just to add, if you didn't notice, the entire beginning of the glee version is a capella except for what sounds like an egg shaker in the background.
I know that it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE for a group of 5 high schoolers to make that big of a sound, and there neither Finn, Kurt, nor Artie (the only three boys in the pilot) have the voice for a base so I don't know where that came from, but the sound as a whole brings the song out of the 80's and into the 2000's for sure. Now, the song both new and old versions are slowly becoming america's favorite song in my opinion at least.
And even to you guys that don't like Glee or a bunch of "kids" (because most of them are actually older) taking your precious 80's song lol close your eyes for a minute and listen again. New sound. Mostly a capella… you can't even really compare the two because they're both amazing in their own way and for their own time period.
(Okay that was a review of both songs from a chorus major's stand point XD )
Glee is just pure joy, and certainly in no way pretentious. That IS a word that people throw around with little thought for its meaning. And right off the mark with Glee .. which has a heartwarming simplicity and honesty at its core .. which comes across in everything about it.. Their version of Journey’s DSB is sensational..it’s an irresistible combination of energy and emotion and is one of the best covers of anything I’ve ever heard…I also like their take on Avril Lavigne .. There’s a lot to LOVE about Glee..What a TV treat it is.
This show has finally in the damp, backward UK. Love the song, love the cover of it, and *love* that it irritates some people so much they’re reduced to hurling insults. Play it more, I say!
this song is tuff!
