Is Chris Brown going country? And will Carrie Underwood join him?

Carrieunderwoodchrisbrown_lWell, it’s one way to get people talking about something other than his alleged assault against Rihanna. E! News reports that beleaguered R&B singer Chris Brown is currently in the studio working on a country song(!) — and Robert Allen, a writer and producer collaborating with him, says Carrie Underwood is a possible duet partner.

"It’s that kind of song," Allen says of the track, called "Trapped in a Dream," "just feeling like you don’t want that dream to go away. Everybody has a dream and you’re in it, but you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God.’ You feel like you’re still in that dream." Hmm, nightmare?

Considering that Ciara is still defending her choice to include "Turntables," her duet with Brown on the recent Fantasy Ride, it seems unlikely that Underwood, a multiplatinum artist and recent ACM Entertainer of the Year winner, would take the risk of that association as long as the taint of recent events still lays so heavily on Brown.

But you tell us, Music Mixers — is there anything he can do to get back in the public’s good graces and redeem his now-tarnished image? Does going country sound like an inspired leap, or just Bad Idea jeans?

this is a lame rumor just like when they were saying rihanna & chris brown were going to duet just after the attack. dont worry even if they ask carrie shes too smart to stoop that low. (hopefully)

  • flutter_fly

Robert Allen’s just trying to get some attention on his song by dropping Carrie’s name as a possibility. It’s annoying to see the blogs play into their hands.
I wouldn’t be surprised if an overture hadn’t even been made yet. But even if it has I don’t see Carrie agreeing to this and would rather her publicist squash this rumor pronto. There’s too much of a risk of blogs like this one making it seem like Carrie’s actually considering this.
BTW Carrie won ACM Entertainer Of The Year, not CMA Entertainer Of The Year.
To answer the question of whether there’s anything Chris Brown can do to redeem himself, for me the answer is no, unless it’s to give up public life and recording and commit the rest of his life to service without trying to get media attention for it.

I totally agree w/ Flutter_Fly on this one, he is dropping Carrie’s name in there to get attention. They prob never even contact her people about this, cause they would shoot them down in a NY minute. There is no way Carrie would ever do a duet with that monster. You can take that to the bank. I hope her PR team is aware of them making that statement and release some sort of statement saying “thanks but no thanks loser”. I believe in second chances, but you gotta admit your mistake and seek the necissary treatment in order to rectify it. Chris Brown is choosing not to do that, he and his people are trying to act like nothing happened. It’s flat out disgusting and I hope his next record tanks.

  • Heather

This is such an obvious PR move on his part. Turning down home country and putting Carrie on the track. Dude, that is not going to help your career.

  • MaMaStarZ

If i was Carrie, i wouldn’t do the song with him either… nope.. I thought he was going to make a country song about beating his girlfriend…hahah!

  • Phil

First off, the only possible country duet I see as eevn a possibility would be with current Hottie turned Country crooner, Darius Rucker. But considering how squeky clean his image is, I doubt that even Darius would be so bold to risk his current country cred (1st African-American to have 2 country hits back to back in decades!!!) to help Brown out. He has about as much to lose as Ms. Underwood.
There’s really not anything Brown can do right now to try & jump start his haulted career. The only answer is to let time heal the wounds & hopefully his fans will accept him again. As I said in an earlier blog post about hot summer songs, its reallly sad that Chri’s duet with Ciara “Turntables” won’t get any love on the radio these days, cause other than “Love, Sex, Magic” it sounds like the ONLY sure-fire hit Ciara has left on the disc. A few months ago, it woulda been Ciara’s follow-up single…now…maybe JIVE will release it in the Fall. The song is great & worth downloading.

If Carrie does this, her fans will drop her faster than they dropped the Dixie Chicks. How can Brown redeem himself? He can’t. Ever!!!! What’s done is done.

  • SarahP

Of course she’s not. Total publicity stunt. This is the girl who rushed to apologize after making a (funny) joke about Matthew McConaghy being shirtless at the last CMA Awards. Whether it’s true to her actual persona or not (and most gossip sites say not), she markets herself with a squeaky clean image, and would never do anything intentional to tarnish that.

  • Zay

everyone should be given a second chance so please everyone stop acting like saints.I say Carrie go for it with Chris.he deserves a second chance.we all make mistakes and learn from them and he will too.we are human after all

  • Lorraine

I hope that Chris Brown just goes away and that everyone stop giving him a second chance. Once a beater – always a beater. It is disrepectful to women and I won’t buy another record/song that he is in.

  • Connie

There is NO WAY Carrie Underwood would EVER do anything with Chris Brown..I can’t imagine ANY successful female artist doing a duet with him? It would be a career ending mistake!!

  • Conflicted

A part of me says Go for it Carrie! Chris is a great artist and they would sound amazing together.
But, I worry that people will attack Carrie from all sides if she does. They will claim she is not on Rihanna’s side, etc., which is BS. Clearly, if Carrie did the song, she is not taking sides.
I am mad at Chris still, but I do think everyone deserves a second chance. So if he can redeem himself and show true remorse, I would love to see him make a comeback someday.
But it will take a long time. Anyway, if Carrie does this, she should ask Rihanna first if this is cool with her, as I know carrie likes Rihanna alot too.

  • Tanika

I would say go for it Carrie. He has great vocals you should be only with the vocals and your music.
I hear many people say they can’t work with someone like him. If you found out that the man in the office next to yours beat his wife, would you quit your job? You found out your boss did the same, what would you do?
We glorify those who are alcoholics, drug abusers, endanger their babies (Brittany), and do all this other crazy Sh** and then oh he and his girlfriend get out of control in their many fights that they have had and and he is the only evil actor/singer out today. We forgive people for murder and rape!! What is wrong with our society to where we can glorify all this bad stuff, but if it is against a woman, then he must die?

  • peoplepleasegetoverit

I guess most people can’t forgive or forget!Or can they when it comes to certain people. How many stars out there that we still support by going to their concert or movies for abusing drugs, women, children etc. Josh Brolin abuse Diane Lane,David Hasselhoff, ex-wife,Harry Morgan,Tracy Lawrence,Eminem, R-Kelly,Michael Jackson and producer,Roman Polanski was charged with raping a young girl, yet hollywood rally in support behind him, google search and read it for yourself about some of your favorite entertainers. We live in a double standard country, why can’t he be giving a second chance, who’s to say he isn’t remorseful.I don’t believe his career is over, he’s still young and because a few people refuse to buy won’t mean that millions won’t, every station hasn’t stopped playing his music, only a few, his duet with Jordin Sparks is still the most paid download on the internet, so I guess most people that don’t like her or him will get over it and like a few of you said, just don’t buy it.

  • Rob

I hope her music career goes down the drain if she sings with chris brown

  • Janice

Great point Tanika, I agree with you 100% and also with some of the other posts, I say to Carrie Underwood I would do it, Chris Brown is a great singer and lord knows there are others that have down much worse and many more that have never admitted to it.

  • alex

Carrie Underwood should not work with this person. Don’t do it Carrie!!!

  • becca

i dont know why its hard for people to understand that carrie’s just a nice person. all celebrities are normal people, and normal people are capable of being nice. being rich and successful doesnt make u a terrible person, which some people seem to think. o carrie has a lot of money, she must be a spoiled brat, that seems to be the only thing people say bout her. shes quiet, not a big deal. she helps many charities with that money. and doesnt flaunt her money with big houses and a ton of cars on shows like cribs. but i doubt she’ll work with chris brown, yes bc it would be bad for her image (its called good business sense), why would ne person want to work with an alleged (lets face it) batterer

  • Stephanie

Music is Music, who gives a dam about the artist personal life, it has nothing to do with their music, Chris Brown is very talented, so why should he give up on his profession, his dream, his job and his talent for what, Rihanna??
Fact is if this was some ordinary girl, no big fuss or out cry would of stop his music from being played, he would still have all his endorsements and people certainly would not be hating him as much, it’s only because it’s Miss Rihanna, that media whore, which is why stupid hating people want his career to end but make it out like it’s ok for Rihanna to move on but not Chris Brown, f that! His is a young man, why should we instantly side with Rihanna simply because she’s a woman. Who says she’s perfectly innocent, just because she’s a dam woman, the whole thing is a complete joke, Chris is not a threat to anyone, his just a young man, who made a mistake, when he got angry at his girlfriend and I am sure Rihanna herself was fuming with heat and anger too

  • OldGoat34

I think Carrie before she would ever consider doing this would have a conversation with Rihanna. She said when she first heard about their dispute the press should leave the two of them to solve their problems. But being a Girl’s Girl I’m sure Carrie would get Rihanna’s personal view before inking any deal to work with Chris Brown.

  • chianne

I so hope Chris will be back soon, just as he was (no Carrie Underwood crap). I hope for some turn-around event or revelation about the arrest, or about Rihanna’s role in the fight. Otherwise it will just take time, and doing some sweet sincere songs about being down, but keeping the dream going. Get beyond the love songs. Make some COOL vidoes. Avoid performing for a while -but there’s a lot of us who want to hear from you – as you. Be your self Chris. Just rack it up a notch, go beyond the RB stereotype of you.

  • alexis

i honestly dont care who the hell he beat up i love chris brown he is very talented love his voice the way he dance…and i know alot of people that love him and i cant wait until he come out with a new cd i will be first in line to get it..

  • alexis

Big ups to Ciara for Turntables..great song

Is this what you ppl tell your children? That at 19 years old you are BEYOND redemption? What did your children think of you when they found out you are NOT perfect? Perhaps thats why so many children are going to school and shooting teachers b/c their parents told them they could never be forgiven for what they had done in their young lives. We had a president that lied and started a war that has killed 5,000 ppl was he asked to quit office and commit to public service? You ppl disgust me more than Chris Brown ever could. And I hope Carrie doesnt get on his track b/c he dont need her. Singers like her are a dime a dozen….

  • The Edge

So let’s make Chris Brown a pariah for life, because what he’s done is worse than the Holocaust and therefore everyone should avoid him like the plague. He’s NOT the first celebrity to beat up his partner (Axl Rose comes to mind, and it wasn’t a one-time incident for him, he made it a habit of abusing women. Didn’t stop people from working with him.) and people need to realize people make mistakes. If he’s genuinely sorry for what he did and gets some anger management issues worked out, then we should forgive him and move on. We’re not going to solve the global issue of domestic violence by sensationalizing a story that involves two celebrities. Rihanna and Chris are NOT the poster children for domestic violence, because it’s an epidemic that’s been going on LONG before their existence. Maybe if we focused on that issue early on as intensely as we do now, the incident might have never happened in the first place.

The edge needs to get a life and mind their oun damn business, i bet her household isn’t perfect.
