'Twilight' star Jackson Rathbone to play a murderous Norwegian black-metaller

Tags:

Jacksonrathbone_lAccording to Blabbermouth.net, dimpled Twilight star Jackson Rathbone will portray infamous Norwegian black-metaller and imprisoned murderer Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) in an upcoming biopic called Lords of Chaos.

It may seem like a perfect fit for someone with experience playing a vampire — tackling the role of a musician who, among other things, burned down a series of churches in the early ’90s. But Vikernes’ tale is a notably bleak and dark one, possibly the darkest in rock history, and includes his fatal 1993 stabbing of fellow musician Oystein Aarseth.

It’s all a long way from Robert Pattinson making goo-goo eyes at Kristen Stewart, and one fears for the mental health of young Twilight fans who might be drawn to Lords of Chaos because of Rathbone’s participation. It is also worth noting that Vikernes was not a big fan of the book on which Lords of Chaos will be based, and once described it as "a pool of mud." And he will be free to register his displeasure at both tome and film — literally. In March, it was announced Vikernes will be paroled after serving 16 years behind bars.

So, Music Mixers, will you be checking out Lords of Chaos? And what do Twilight fans make of Rathbone’s choice?

ok so this moron says he can play an Inuit in last airbender by getting a tan, and now he’s the right race and ethnicity to play a norwegian…….riiiiiiight….before any one says it’s “acting”, well this guy is not much of an actor.

Come on, he’s a good actor, /and/ he knows how to play. I think he’d do good, and he could pass for Norwegian. His hair is a bit dark, but not /that/ much, and he’ll have to use a wig for the part anyway

Why do you feel the need to plug Twilight in posts that aren’t about Twilight? This guy, who happened to be in Twilight, is in another movie. OK. Is it because of the fact that if you didn’t name-drop Twilight or if he hadn’t been in Twilight, no one would care? All you had to say that “This guy, whom you may have seen in Twilight, is in this movie.” No need to waste a paragraph drawing comparisons or worrying about the mental health of Twihards.
It sounds like an interesting project, and I look forward to EW’s further attempts to shoehorn Twilight coverage into places it doesn’t belong.

I see not even the Music Mix is immune from the new edict at “Enter-Twilight Daily.”

Who gives a flying you-know-what what Twilight fans think of his choice? I wasn’t aware that actors’ career choices could or should be dictated or judged by a bunch of unstable teenage girls and sexually repressed middle-aged women. If he wants to play Hitler, Pol Pot or Stalin, what do their opinions matter?
Is there like a corporate memo floating around with exact Twilight post specifications? I’m genuinely curious.

I agree with Adam. I have to admit that I am obsessed with Twilight but even I think that this article was sad. I mean people have to realize that he protrayed a CHARACTER in twilight and he is an ACTOR and will act in other projects. Please, I love to read things about twilight but I think this may be going to far.

I was thinking that the site was saturated with American Idol, but you know what? At least the American Idol stuff is fresh and recent. It’s been almost a year since the last craptacular Twilight book came out, the last movie was in November and the next movie won’t be until November. And yet EVERY DAY this site feels compelled to cover it. It’s cool if it’s about casting, photos, set coverage, etc. But yesterday there was the post from Cannes that name-dropped Pattinson but had nothing to do with him, this post here that really has nothing to do with Twilight and the post about idiots paying 20K to kiss Pattinson. ENOUGH. I get that it’s popular and if you name-drop Twilight it gets rabid fans to click your posts, but good God people. It’s getting ridiculous. You’re beating the crap out of a dead horse, alienating people who were loyal readers WAY before Twilight and just propagating a Twihard circle jerk.
Hope Rathbone’s project works well for him.

Besides the fact that Jackson Rathbone is supposedly trying to release music with his own band, HOW EXACTLY DOES THIS ITEM QUALIFY AS A MUSIC MIX ITEM!? I agree with the other poster Kelsey about the over saturation of wasting time and space on TWILIGHT related stories. Where was the blog post about how the kinda great but greatly over-looked ADVENTURELAND tanked BIG TIME!? Where was that post or did I miss that one!? So much interesting stuff to cover in the world of music & y’all writers all cover the same crap with eagerness & zeal. STEP OUTSIDE YOUR OWN PERSONAL COMFORT ZONES. I can’t be the only person that logs on here daily and feels this way…HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY y’ALL….

this movie is going to be an abomination… a ‘funny’ portrayal of norway that falls under the ‘teen movie’ category. this is going to be a serious blow to black metal’s credibility if we end up with a legion of emo twilight fangirls wearing burzum shirts everywhere. the guy doesnt look anything like varg either. BOYCOTT THIS MOVIE

the question is how the twilight fans will like the roll that jackson has chose to take. who cares what the twilight fans think. jackson (and i don’t know him personally) should be choosing roles that he feels that will progress his career. If this is what he wants to do, then great for him. If you have also read anything about him… he is a character actor, so you will never see him take the same kind of roll over and over again. He likes to mix it up and suprise the sh&* out of you (example the character he portrayed on criminal minds.)So twilight fans become jackson fans.

Black Metal is dead. This film merely marks the impalement of the head on the stake. The Metal Underground must create a new movement, with the same values, the same determination, and the same goals as Black Metal once had.
This is but one attempt of the masses to understand and assimilate something they are afraid of. While the modern intellectual may realise that burning churches is a moronic act, for whatever reason; while he may understand the problems with committing murder; while he may wish to remain anonymous, in the light of all that has happened to like people in the past two decades…
It is imperative that we form a new movement. It will be unlabeled. All boundaries will be broken. Our foundation is the best of extreme music, extreme philosophy, and extreme violence.
I await those who will join this already sizeable group. If it can be called anything, it is “the fourth wave”.

This movie is blasphemous to any kvltist of black metal. This fool Rathbone has no idea of the musical genius of Varg. Varg himself, on burzum.org, see: Lords Of Lies, Part one on his website… Read up on the real reason he killed Oystein, aka Euronymous. Take it from a true black metal fan, this movie is full of lies. Varg is not a satanist, as this movie will likely portray him. Nor is he a Neo-Nazi. He is an honest man, and a musical genius. If you wanna see how versatile this guy is, listen to any of his early stuff, then Hlidskjalf, created entirely on a keyboard in prison. BOYCOTT THIS LIE INFESTED GARBAGE!

  • Hunter

To realist: You are absolutely correct. However, black metal is not dead. The new wave of it is progressive black metal. Emperor, Enslaved… Many of the former greats, even Darkthrone, who’ve recently included crust into their sound, have included a progressive influence. The new movement is less violent, but I share the same hatred of all things mainstream. Oh, and by the way, the writers of the book are two Satanic fools who believe the lies spread by Anton LaVey’s “Church of Satan.”

  • ?

please tell me this is a joke… -_-

  • 88

Please. Tell me this is a joke. I’m pretty sure Varg would make some kind of legal battle anyway. As odd as he is, who the hell would want some “teen throb” retard portraying them?! Bring on the law suits i say!
