I was surprised when my 8-year old’s favorite American Idol download this season was Adam Lambert’s “Ring of Fire.” He also loved Allison Iraheta’s “Cry Baby.” Other songs on his playlist are “Boom Boom Pow,” “Baby Got Back,” “My Life Would Suck Without You,” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.” He’s also been a fan of “Never Gonna Give You Up” since he found out about Rick-rolling.

My 14 month old LOVES reggae, especially Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds.”

Im 13 and my favourite bands are Green Day, Led Zeppilin and Red Hot Chili Peppers, although my brother and dad are obsessed with Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, and my mum loves the Killers and Billy Joel… Its a strange situation.

My 4 year old Drayden has better taste in music than tons of adults. He never listens to anything on the radio unless he’s at somebody else’s house.

His favorite song of ALL TIME is The King of Rock and Roll by Daniel Lioneye. He calls it “Bam Song”

    among his other favorites:
-Ride the Wings of Pestilence by From First to Last
    - Animal Rap by Jedi Mind Tricks (actually he loves anything by Jedi Mind Tricks)
    - Boogie Woogie Wu by Insane Clown Posse (or anything by them. Toy Box is a great one.)
    - Beautiful by Akon (i’m not too proud of this one)
    - Bang Bang Remix by Method Man & Redman
    - Down With the Sickness by Disturbed
    - Da Rockwilder by Method Man & Redman
    - Du Hast by Rammstein

and there is a ton more but i think i’ve listed enough for now. He loves music, and i could not be more proud of him.

My boys, 6 & 4, love “Hey Soul Sister” by Train. They always ask what ‘the way you move ain’t fair you know’ means. Ummm…

I’ve been compyling a music list that I don’t mind my daughter listening to, My daughter loves the song paparazzi by lady Gaga I knew I had to do something. So far I’ve picked songs from movies my daugher loves that are “grown up songs” Like Cantaloop -Trip Fantasia, or Micheal Frante – Say hey (I love you) and the ever loving Matilda theme song by Rusted Root – Send me on my way. She seems to love them and they are feel good and possitive. I’m always looking for more songs.

My daughter, at age 3, loved to sing “Whoot, There It Is” shouting it out in grocery stores and other public places. Eventually, I banned her from singing it. She’s 20 now and quite embarrassed, by the retelling of this story.
