Bret Michaels' broken face: Photos!

Bret-michaels-tony-injuries_l After Bret Michaels' mishap at Sunday's Tony Awards, the Internet was chortling away at the Poison lead singer and Rock of Love star's nasty accident (he broke his nose and needed a few stitches for a cut lip.) Now we're getting to see exactly just how injured Michaels was: he's posted pictures of himself "following the incident at the Tony Awards" on his MySpace.

Apparently Michaels is miffed that the Tonys aren't taking this all more seriously. A spokesperson for the singer issued a statement today saying: "I find it surprising that a Tony spokesperson would brush off this incident with a comment stating 'Mr. Michaels missed his mark' with no mention of concern for his condition." Also: "I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton or Elton John, the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern."

What do you think, Music Mixers? Now that you've seen the pictures, is this nothing more than a minor mishap, or does Michaels have a right to be upset?

I’m sorry the guy got hurt, but does his “spokesperson” seriously think Brett’s in the same league as legends Liza Minelli, Elton John, or Dolly Parton?

Brett sold a lot of records in his day but the bigger issue is that someone should have taken it seriously. If Broadway wants America to pay insane ticket prices and come to a show, they are going to have to acknowledge that there is more to life than one street in NY. Disney cannot save Broadway alone. Brett and NPH brought in viewers who are not typical Tony viewers. Now show the man some love and the country that theater is one big happy family.

Your response to that question makes their point. Just because he’s not a big star like them, he perhaps is not cared about. If this was a bigger name, the Tonys would be falling over themselves to make sure he was okay.

2/3rds of Tony! Toni! Tone! misses the point.
Would the Tonys have been more concerned if Liza, Dolly or Elton were injured during the show? You bet.
Just because Brett isn’t in that league, does that excuse the Tonys from also being concerned?

Honestly, he did miss his mark and that is his fault. The other two guys RAN back to the little stage and had plenty of time to turn back around and wave to the audience as their number ran down. He stayed towards the front and drank up the applause and didn’t rush back like the other two. He ended up late getting back to his mark, unlike the other two guys, and it is his fault the scenery knocked his butt down. I thought it was hilarious!

He was injured because he was taking one too many bows for his lip synching. Clearly the rest of the band knew where they needed to be and they ran like hell to get to their marks in time. Instead of acting like a professional and admitting he goofed, Brett is lashing out like a toddler crying that nobody is paying him enough attention. If this HAD happened to Liza, Dolly, or Elton, they would likely would have brushed themselves off and gone on with the show.

This wouldn’t have happened to Dolly, Liza, or Elton, because they are professionals who would have been where they were supposed to be.

Who cares? Might be an improvement, he’s not the best looking fellow.

  • STAR

THIS COULD’VE BEEN ALOT WORSE HAD IT HIT ANYONE IN THE TEMPLE OR SKULL. I THINK TO SAY THAT IT MIGHT BE AN IMPROVEMENT IS TERRIBLE. PICTURE YOURSELF IN THIS INCIDENT AND YOU WOULDNT BE CRACKIN JOKES. I AM NOT THE BIGGEST FAN OF HIS EITHER BUT WOULDN’T WISH PAIN EVEN ON AN ENEMY.
    SHAME ON YOU !

I’m sorry, did I just read that Bret Michaels might have brought different viewers to the awards show? If I had known he was going to be on the show, I still wouldn’t have watched, and I’m guessing no one is a big enough fan of his to have watched a boring awards show just to see him sing a song.

  • Megan

Yeah, those of us in theatre know the importance of *not* missing your mark. Hence the reason this didn’t happen to Liza, Dolly, or Elton.

It was only a short time ago that Natasha Richardson died after a bump on the head that at first seemed minor. We need to take all head injuries more seriously, for EVERYBODY.

Honestly, I think it’s obvious that by the time a statement was issued by the Tonys that he missed his mark, they already knew it wasn’t exactly life threatening. Broken nose and cut lip aside, I’m sure that once he was backstage they knew it wasn’t going to be much worse than that. Are we supposed to fawn over celebrities when they stub their toe, too?

  • Babulah

I’m not even a fan of Bretts, but I’m on his side. They should have safeguards to stop the drop if the singer is going to get clobbered. Weren’t the stage hands paying attention? I’m sorry but I blame the powers that be with this one…they should have given them a bit more time..he didn’t stay but a few seconds more than the other guys.
