Courtney Love says she's reforming Hole (kind of? Not really!)

Filed under: News and tagged: ,

Poor freecreditreport.com rating — and a paranormally delayed solo album — be damned! Courtney Love is like Matthew Wilder: ain't nothin' gonna breaka her stride.

Via U.K. music publication NME, the professional widow and onetime grunge icon announced that her forever-in-the-works Nobody’s Daughter will come out not under her name, but instead under the moniker of Hole, the often-excellent band she disbanded back in 2002.

As Love tells the magazine in print and an accompanying video diary, Daughter — after umpteen scratched songs, producers, and studios — will herald the return of "rock Courtney." She will be joined, she says, by Hole (and Smashing Pumpkins) alum Melissa Auf der Maur on bass and backing vocals, as well as, well…nobody else from the old lineup, but maybe that is incidental to Rock Courtney?

Either way, Love promises you'll be seeing the album by late this year or early next, to be followed by a national tour. Watch her Miss-Havisham-takes-the-Sunset-Strip shenanigans below, and tell us if you're still ready and waiting for Daughter:

Awesome! There were other people in Hole besides Courtney and Melissa? Who knew.
Celebrity Skin is an A+ rock record, so hopefully the new album will be more like that and less less A LOT LESS like America’s Sweetheart.

She is a HOLE an A HOLE

Thanks thataboy. I could not agree more. “Celebrity Skin” is one of my all-time fave albums. “America’s Sweetheart?” Um, not so much…

Boo. I loved Hole’s music but Eric Erlandson’s guitar skills were the driving force behind the musical arrangements. Melissa rocks and Courtney is often fun to watch, but one wonders if they can carry a band on their own.

I absolutely love Hole but I would like to see Eric Erlandson be part of any regrouping. Melissa may have play instruments on the band but the talent and artistic forces behind Hole were Courtney and Eric.
On and btw, America’s Sweetheart frakking rocks. I love Celebrity Skin and America’s Sweetheart was like a mix ‘tween CS and Live Through This so no matter what, I’ll be excited about anything Courtney offers to the public.

Jeff and thataboy. why comment if you don’t know what you’re talking about. Hole would not’ve been the band it was without Eric Erlandson. he was the driving guitarist behind the music-as Courtney is not that great of a guitarist which she freely admits. and no mention of Patty Schemel? she drummed for a major part of their tenure. she’s over it though. i love Hole and Courtney’s music but i think this is a bad move-it reeks of desperation to me.

I agree with you, folks. Loved “Celebrity Skin,” which was unfairly dissed as too polished. It’s not all gloss, actually, and I still pull it out to play a decade after it came out. I don’t do that with too many albums in my collection.

Can we please just re-form New order? Sad. Very sad indeed.

Although an unmistakable New Order-y melody here.

Of course we’d all love to see Courtney and Eric working together, and uber fans know they’re the core of the band. But I’d be lying if I said this news didn’t excite me. Even if it’s only backing vocals, I love Courtney and Melissa together. I’d buy any record the featured those two amazing ladies.
