Yesterday, we talked about Megan Fox's fondness for "Asian Justin Timberlake" Rain (her words, not ours!), and the comments board hasn't slowed down since. Today, we're moving on to the Wonder Girls, the South Korean pop-culture sensation set to open a bunch of dates on the Jonas Brothers upcoming 53-city tour. (Read our review of the JoBros' mildly naughty new album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times.)
We'll have to wait and see what it does for the Wonder Girls — the wholesome, sweet-faced teenagers who single-handedly sparked a national dance craze in 2007 with their addictive debut single, "Tell Me." If the Jonases are American princes, think of the Wonder Girls as Korean empresses.
Though Korean news reports have sensationalized the girls' importance on the tour, saying they'd be in all cities with the brothers, they'll actually be featured in 13 concerts and 7 locations, joining them June 27 in Portland and concluding their duties in Atlanta on August 22. Still, could even this relatively small amount of exposure provide a launching pad for the young starlets to the American music scene?
What do think, Music Mixers? Do the Wonder Girls have the poppin' chops to make them show stoppers in the States? Or, unlike Fox, do you think America is still unready and unwilling to truly embrace singers from the East?

YES!! You don’t know how happy you have made me this week EW. Yesterday you mention Rain and today it’s the Wonder Girls. I’m not Korean nor do I speak the language but k-pop is pretty much the only thing I listen to now. I’m hoping that BOA, Rain and the Wonder Girls breakthrough in the states so that more Korean artist make there way here. DBSK, Big Bang, 2ne1, SHINee, SNSD…I’m waiting for you.
yes! i completely agree. Wonder Girls Fighting!
All right go wonder girls!!!! I can’t wait to see if any of the other korean beands re coming to the US
I don’t know who these girls are but that song is Catchy, haha.
I’m going to look them up.
It helps that they’re cute too.
They totally got what it’s needed. We just have to know if America will ‘accept’ them.
Wonder girls !! there song nobody is really catchy good luck on there debut in America
Wonder girls !!! there song nobody is really catchy
good luck to them on there American debut
Aaah, love this song. I can’t help but do the dance (poorly) whenever I hear it. As for the Wondergirls, I wish them all the best along with BOA and Utada who are all trying to break into the American market. I don’t know if the Wondergirls have the live performance skills needed though…
I am so glad you featured them, EW! I’m happy that you all are branching out of your element and actually writing about things worthwhile and happening outside of the States.
Thanks EW! LOVE
LOVE?
I really like their preview of nobody in english!!! cant wait til next week…hope they can break in US music!!
I love their song “So Hot.” It’s not necessarily “good,” but it’s a delicious little pop song.
I love the wonder girls but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to break through maybe if they had started with “so hot” maybe I should have a bit more faith with the teeny boppers at the JoBros. concert. I would much rather see 2NE1, Big Bang, 2pm, DBSK, or Super Junior….but realistically it would be either 2NE1, Big Bang, or 2pm to break through and more likely 2NE1 those girls are amazing and talented with great English.
Lol @ the idiot advertising 2NE1, lets not forget how badly 2NE1 would be laughed out of the US with their corny ass rapping and poser wannabe “gangster” look, just picture a bunch of short, ugly asian girls trying to look like t-pain and a mix of lady gaga. But throw in a 25 year old women wearing mini dresses and acting like a 5 year old.
Scary stuff.
Anyways good luck to Wonder Girls and Utada hikaru, and se7en
Thanks for posting this up. I hope they will have a positive impact on the jonas brother’s fans even if it may not be a total success.
Lolmoron: I have to say, I kinda agree.
Back to topic,
interesting…goodluck to the Wonder Girls
i’m not sure if they’ll be able to succeed but i wish the girls the best! go wonder girls!!
