The Killers plan release of all-covers album

Flowers-diamond_l Words seldom seem to fail the always-chatty Brandon Flowers, but now the Killers frontman is opting to put other people's in his mouth. Well, their lyrics, really.

Flowers and his fellow bandmate Ronnie Vanucci announced to NME.com that they are planning to record a covers album sometime this year. So who will boys give their synth-rock sound a tweaking to?

The duo cited The Cars, Fleet Foxes, Cyndi Lauper, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Genesis, and — believe it — Neil Diamond as possibilities.

Flowers, whose band is set to headline today's Hard Rock Calling in London, said of narrowing down the options of who to cover, "It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals. I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself!" What do you think of this idea, MusicMixers? Should, and can, The Killers pull of a covers album? If so, which songs and artists would you love to hear them take on?

Oooh, this sounds fun! I love The Killers and I love covers, so it sounds like a win-win!

Can’t wait to check it out, the Killers haven’t disappointed me yet!

I think the Killers have proven they can cover certain songs well. It should be fun to hear. But to answer the question if the Killers can pull a covers record off, sure, why not? If freaking Scarlett Johanson can cover Tom Waits, I think the Killers can cover anything they want to. And yes, I love the Killers….and NO, I do not think Scarjo can sing.

Their recent cover of “Four Winds” by Bright Eyes was great.

    Best. Idea. Ever.

Almost all of their covers so far have been great. Hotel California, Romeo and Juliet, Four Winds, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Moonage Daydream, Shadowplay, Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself, etc. etc. etc. They’re exceptionally good at it, so this album should be pretty awesome.

    YES PLEASE!

The Killers are an amazing band! I think they will do a really great job!
They have given justice few covers they have done (Dire Straits, Bright Eyes, etc.)

Tori Amos did it on “Strange Little Girls” and that was a cool concept album, so as long as The Killers bring something new and diverse to the songs while still honoring the people that made them famous, there’s no reason the album won’t be awesome. It’s a tricky balance to strike, though.

Yes, The Killers make great covers, this album will be amazing! I have known about it for awhile, and I can not wait for it to come out! The Killers are more than talented, I know this album will be amazing, and they will do way more than just “pull it off”!

Loved their take on “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town,” so hopefully we’ll get a few other gems out of this. The Cars and Cyndi Lauper mentions are exciting, but I hope they go a bit further with the New Wave thing, and cover something like Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer.”

It looks like I’ll have some competition when I release my Kern County country covers of both Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and Freak on a Leash by Korn. In the meantime,
    here’s a better mix of:
    Goodbye Michael Jackson
    (Bittersweet Legacy)
    Dr BLT copyright 2009

But it still pales in comparison to my alternative country version of Billie Jean. That’ll be out in a couple of weeks, but you’ll be able to sample it, and get more psychological perspective on Michael Jackson within the next couple of days over at:

Fabulous idea. I love their cover of Morrissey’s Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself; I’m very keen to hear what else they have up their collective sleeve.

congrats on the cover album especially since you will use a cyndi lauper song………hole on my heart? goonies? or change of heart or a time after time hard rock version.
    good luck
