The 2009 BET Awards: We live-blogged it!

Update: What a show! It ran long — over three and a half hours — but performances by New Edition, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, and the O’Jays, and a touching surprise appearance by Janet Jackson made the show memorable. Get the full list of winners here, and scroll down to replay our live blog. Beware, West Coasters and TiVo types: Spoilers abound.

The show must go on, say organizers of this weekend’s BET Awards, which now will be dedicated to the memory of Michael Jackson, who died earlier this week at age 50.

Join EW’s Chad Schlegel and special guest Emil Wilbekin, managing editor of ESSENCE.com, as they live-blog the ceremony, hosted by Jamie Foxx. Log on at 8 p.m. EDT Sunday for Chad and Emil’s blow-by-blow report on the proceedings, including star tributes to the late icon and performances by Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo and more.

there will always be an empty void where michael jackson once stood in the music industry. there has never has been a more influential & talanted person to have ever walked this earth. he will be missed eternally but his soul will love on through his music forever. just continue believing in his legacy by living out your dreams.
    lonq live the king m.j.

This has been one of the most devastating things in my life. I loved Michael Jackson, and he will be missed greatly. I hope everyone just remember his truimphs, his success, the joy he has given and left us, his dynamic performance, and not his unproven defeats. As his song states “I’ll Be There”, I may not be able to be at the Bet Awards in person, but I’ll Be There” in front of the tv, and in spirit. RIP Michael, you are safe, and loved now and forever more, and no more sadness and lonliness will befall you in life.

This will be an emotional night. I hope they do him proud.

There’s only one legitimate place I’ve found to watch it live, the rest seem like scams :-/ You can see it over here though: http://vostuu.com/watch28015.html
They make you do a little survey but after that it’s good to go :)

    Did Tyra Banks know Michael?

    FOLKS: Don’t go to vostuu.com — it’s a long-a** survey, probably a spam or virus site.

this Keri Hilson is a sad singer. Song is sorry, she’s not entertaining.

  • Omorose

I think that this is such a tragedy…but it has turned into a positive. MJ death will bring together a lot of ppl. One thing I do think is that Chris Brown could have done a tribute to MJ and done real well

  • Louisiana

Lil Weezy is puttn LOUISIANA on the map 2009

  • lou

Tyra was in his “Black or White” video

  • bill

its sad but micheal did have his big comeback unfortunatly by dying.

  • Kat

Chris Brown would have been a distraction. He may have done a tribute justice. But his very presence would have been a distraction. Considering many people think he should be in jail right now. It’s better he stayed away or they didn’t invite him. Because it wouldn’t have been right due to his recent actions. It’s supposed to be celebrating Michael not putting light on a notorious performer…

  • Sally in Chicago

You can tell they put the show together at the last minute. Not very “tributey” and some of the singers (Keri Hilson) can’t sing.

  • DANLEY PIERRE

MICHAEL JACKSON IS THE BEST IN WORLD

  • Tammy

I know Jamie Foxx is a comedian but he seems to be a poor choice as host, this is supposed to be a tribute and cursing and talking about the “boa constrictor” in his pants isn’t really necessary. he is making us look bad

  • tg

I’m not sure MJ would’ve wanted his father there. That seems odd. And Jamie Foxx. Inappropriate.

  • Sally in Chicago

I wish Jamie would just host!

  • Dan

    travis barker rocked it.

  • SKZ

I thought was his father–more proof that he used MJ his whole life and apparently in death, as well-

  • CHACHA

CHRIS BROWN NEEDS TO OUT OF THE BET AWARDS

  • SKZ

Completely agree with you, Tammy-Jamie Foxx is being a complete jerk-hope the guests featured pay better tribute to Michael
