I doubt this will be a chart hit. People forget that Mariah’s Big comeback with “Mimi” was preceded by Charmbracelet [her failed attempt at a big comeback]. Lead off single for that disc was an empowering anthem called “Through The Rain.” Anyone dare to hum a few bars? My point is this: that strategy tanked in 2002? Why does Clive think it will work in 2009? Not gonna happen. Agree with everyone that Whitney is still amazing and a remix could improve the situation–but this does not bode well for a “major comeback.” Sigh.
Love Whitney, but I don’t like this song.
Oh no. Here’s my thought. Everyone forgets that before Mariah Carey’s big comeback with the Mimi disc, she released Charmbracelet–a disc intended to be her “big comeback.” Interestingly, the first singe from that disc was also a self-empowerment ballad called “Through The Rain.” Go ahead and hum a few bars. What–you can’t? The song stalled at #81 on the BB charts. Her lowest position for a lead-off single. My point: If this strategy for making a big comeback didn’t work in 2002–it sure won’t work in 2009. I don’t get Clive. I agree with other posters, Whitney IS amazing and a remix could “save” this song, but REALLY. This is how you are relaunching the career of one of pop’s greatest voices. REALLY.
i love whitney and i’m sure the song will grow on me simply because i’m such a huge fan… i like it better than the akon duet that was leaked… it’s not whitney she’s not a soula boy or a keri hilson, she’s a quiet storm contender. when anita came back she didn’t get kanye to do a joint with and why should whitney try and pull in the 18 and under crowd like mariah tried to do… i mean her mimi cd was cool but let us not forget e=mc2 and it didn’t stand up after it’s debut, i feel if u r 40 u need to act like it with ur music… whitney will do just fine and i’m certain she’ll have a few tricks up her sleeves on this album for the doubters.
Tragic. Terrible. You can do better than this, Whitney. It’s like an American Idol winner song. COME ON.
I’m sure Whitney will say to anyone who does not like her song, “KISS MY A$$!”
This song is whack! Hang it up, girl.
Whoa! All that drug use has taken a toll on her voice. The power is gone, replaced by a rasp. Her voice reminds me of her relative Dionne Warwick’s. Kids, say no to drugs!
The song is amazing! It grows on you. Now i love it! Grammy gold for Houston this year in Song of the year! I hope its played at Micheal Jacksons funeral.
love it, its Amazing! Houston will win another Grammy for this song. I listen to it several times and it reminded me when my sister died of cancer. Good work on the vocals by Houston it came from her heart. Bless her soul.
honestly when i listened to the song the first i wasnt too impressed. not because the song was bad but because i had already build an idea of a 5-octave hit in my head. the voice is there, wonderfull as ever. her voice has matured and listen to this song again but this time you need to listen to the song and with the emotion it evokes. a great singer needs to be versatile and Whitney can sing just about anything and i take my hat off to her. its a case of Quantity vs Quality and its the latter that wins. Welcome back Whitney. one last thing, black people need to stop hating on each other. no one is perfect, no one.
Even though it sounds like an AI coronation song, she’s always sang those kind of songs. That’s why I’ve never own a WH album or CD.
This is the perfect time for this song. People are hearting now with the way the economy is. Thanks Whitney for this Inspirational ballad.
he he, you are so right kahuna. That song does sound like an AI coronation song. Uggh!
Lost touch with my soul
I had no where to turn
I had no where to go
Lost sight of my dream,
Thought it would be the end of me
I thought Id never make it through
I had no hope to hold on to,
I thought I would break
I didnt know my own strength
And I crashed down, and I tumbled
But I did not crumble
I got through all the pain
I didnt know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
