Perez Hilton set to launch label imprint with Warner Bros.: The rumors are true

Perez-Hilton_l It feels like this has been a subject of speculation for ages, but it's finally official: Warner Brothers has confirmed to EW that gossip maven Perez Hilton is set to launch his very own imprint with the label in the near future. In a conversation with EW's Tim Stack for a story that will be on newsstands tomorrow, Perez said he's serious about entering the music industry: "I have an ear, which is really important in the music world — to be able to hear a hit and to be able to know who has a good song or not… I'm more than just an A&R person. I'm also a marketing person. I'm also a manager."

Perez plans to announce his first signee by the end of this month, and he hopes to put together a tour soon after. Bear in mind that he can lay claim to helping introduce the world to talents like Mika and Lady Gaga — "I saw the potential in her from the very beginning before any one else," he added. So how do you think he'll do as the head of a label imprint? Have you discovered any new music through Perez Hilton?

The idea of someone like Perez helping to dictate the pop-music landscape is deeply depressing. I would like to request that, anytime EW reviews one of his label’s releases, they note that it came from him so we can avoid buying it. I don’t want to put any money into Perez’s coffers.

PEREZ please sign Marina & The Diamonds! She was on your website—she’s absolutely amazing. Please help bring her incredible music to the US!

I have to admit that music recommendations ARE something I take/enjoy from Perez. From Mika to Adele to Julian Perretta, Perez has had a great amount of good taste in the music he recommends. I am, however, torn by this news. If Perez had posted a blog that solely had focused on his music/film recommendations all along, I would now be behind this 100%. I just have difficulty with the idea of Warner rewarding a man who has put so much ugliness, cruelty and negativity into the world with a label imprint. I would encourage artists to go ahead and use Perez (the way he uses everyone else) for exposure, but then sign with other labels because I believe that many people will have trouble putting more money in Perez Hilton’s pocket at this point and I would hate to see great artists suffer in sales because of his image or behavior.

Endorsement from that bitter queen is nothing to brag about. I personally refuse to listen to anyone on her label. Stop putting her in the news! And don’t be a loser – don’t go to her website…I stopped and refuse to go back. She is worthless.

…and I reiterate. No one would care about this nosebleed Hilton if he wasn’t gay. I read his blog a grand total of once and realized “who” he is. In a nutshell this is the guy that someone of merit (an actor or musician of repute, etcetera)once said “He’s cool and really has a voice,” then everyone else fell in line and agreed even though it obviously isn’t the truth. He can’t write, isn’t impartial, and quite frankly DOES come off as a bitchy queen which another poster below stated first.
All that said I applaud his success for one reason and one reason only. Perez Hilton is living proof that you don’t have to be talented to succeed; just be at the right place, at the right time in history. Stars align, moths fart, tornadoes kill off those who truly DO have talent, and what’s left? The likes of Perez Hilton.

Give me a break. Lady GaGa would have made it without any endorsement from that creep. She was well on her way. Why anyone would listen to him is beyond me. He is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

Perez introduced me to an amazing singer named Eric Hutchinson. I bought his album only knowing that Perez was a fan. I have since seen Eric in concert 3 times. Everyone should diffenetly check him out, he is amazingly talented.

Though I’m not an avid Perez Hilton fan, I do admit, that gays have much better taste, musically, than most straights, most of the time. I hope that Perez would provide an audience for lesser known pop-dance acts like Gaga, though hopefully with their own unique style & sound. I can’t stand copycats. Anyways I think everyone who has a problem with him being an A&R rep at a label whose struggled to have honest hits the last few years should also consider that an artist such as Mariah Carey has had 2 labels that have gone under. Sony’s Crave. in the 90’s, remember DJ Company? Anyone? And her blink and ya missed it MonarC label. If someone of her caliber is given labels to keep her happy, don’t you think we should be willing to give Perez a chance? Say what you will about his mouth, but he does have an interesting taste in tunes. I’d hope he’d try & sign one of my faves, Alphabeat from the UK BUT I think Universal has the world wide deal for ‘em. I wish they’d break ‘em here in the U.S.

I certainly didn’t hear about Lady Gaga from Perez. “Just Dance” was a club hit by June 2008 (how I heard the tune), around the same time he supposedly ‘broke’ her. So I guess all of those club DJs helped her just as much, if not more. “Just Dance” didn’t even go mainstream until much, much later, finally hitting #1 in January.
I’ll give him credit for pumping (pimping?) Mika, but if we’re looking at mainstream success as the measure, Perez didn’t do much for that guy’s career here in the States.

  • Yeaaaaaaaaaaah!

    Perez should not be encouraged.
And since when does ‘marketing’ include ‘drawing semen globs on faces with MS Paint’?

I’ll be sure not to buy or listen to any artist he supports or supports him. I don’t like this guy in any form even while supporting the right of gays.

Wow this Perez was dissing on all the singles from the Black Eyed Peas new albuma and both shot to No. 1….wow you have such great ears for music Perez…NOT!

  • James

I think Michael Slezak has a better ear for talent than Perez (in fact it was Slezak that introduced me to Mika even though I saw Perez at a Mika show here in LA) – I think he should get this imprint and that Perez should just go away. I for one will not support him – as a gay man I just feel he is not the person I want representing my community.
