Michael Jackson's London tribute show: Who should perform?

Categories: Michael Jackson

Michael-Jackson_l According to the NME, the promoter of Michael Jackson's O2 Arena concerts is confident that a tribute show to the late superstar will take place in London, possibly on the singer's birthday of August 29. AEG Live chief Randy Phillips is quoted as saying that "the number one item I’m discussing is presenting 'This Is It' the production, hopefully with the Jacksons and maybe Janet, and other artists."

But which other artists? The number of performers who can claim a connection to Jackson is substantial and includes the Motown roster (Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, etc.); the many acts who performed at Jackson's 30th anniversary show (a list that merely starts with Britney Spears, Slash, and *NSYNC); and artists such as Akon and will.i.am who had collaborated with Jackson over the past couple of years. Of course, the UK is also home to one Paul McCartney, with whom Jackson recorded "The Girl Is Mine" and "Say Say Say." McCartney was reportedly upset by Jackson's purchase of the Beatles catalog but was also fulsome in his praise of the Thriller star following his death.

So, who would you like to see perform? Britney? Justin T? Akon? Slash? Sir Paul? And what songs would you like them to play?

    • Liz

Exactly! People who we could clearly see has been influenced by MJ. Including Ne-Yo.

      • Liz

I heard a rumor that MJ and Janet had spoken about going on tour together. That would have been great.

  • Marie

i don’t want to see Chris Brown perform anything anymore. i’m no longer a fan of his, and we all know why.
but i do hope that Janet and the rest of the Jackson’s will be there.

It would be lovely if Sir Paul would participate, but he will be in the states at that time. Maybe he will do a tribute to MJ then. It would be great for him to do “The Girl is Mine.” or “Say, Say, Say… I wonder if this will be televised.

    • Liz

I’ve read that it may be a Pay-Per-View event. I hope so.

I would LOVE for Justin to perform, but due to how his relationship is with the Jacksons after how he handled Janet’s Super Bowl backlash I doubt it’ll happen…

To watch a bunch of people doing Michaels songs is very sad.It just makes you realise that no one can perform his songs like Michael could..No one sounds like him and no one can perform them with the same quality.

  • Josh

Not even a concert full of big named artist can match the talent of one Michael Jackson .. except for Paul Mccartney he`s the only one bigger than MJ..All those other so called artist can`t touch The King Of PoP

If Paul McCartney will be there, that would probably the only part I will see if this goes on DVD, I feel uneasy having those hacks (won’t name names)riding on MJ’s legacy, at least Paul is the same level as MJ when it comes to legendary status. If there are other legends there to perform, those are the only parts I would like to watch.

There is a major poll running over at http://www.tinyurl.com/evilgood as to whether Michael Jackson was good or evil. Evil is currently in the lead! I think this poll is being recorded in some sort of record book, anyways, everybody go vote for good!!

Sorry I forgot some of the most important names, How could I?? Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson singing his song which Michael made legendary and Shaheem J. I’d also very much like to see what Michael had in store for the O2 concerts. I think it would be great to know what he would’ve been performing and what the show would’ve been like.
