It’s no secret I’m excited about Blake Lewis’ upcoming Heartbreak on Vinyl — I blogged last month about my geeky enthusiasm for the season 6 American Idol runner-up — and the release of lead single “Sad Song” has only made me more wound up for the beat-boxing Seattle singer’s sophomore set. (Ch-ch-check out my pal Annie Barrett’s “Sad Song” review here.) Now, to complete the trifecta of This Month in Blake Lewis Blogging, we’ve got some exclusive footage of the man himself in the studio with megaproducer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. (Am I the only one who can’t hear that dude’s name without thinking of Toni Braxton whispering it during the opening strains of “He Wasn’t Man Enough“? Probs.) Anyhoo, it’s fun to learn a little bit about Lewis’ songwriting style (lyrics come last) and see the way Jerkins tries to build a Top 40 hit around the singer’s nifty bag of human sound effects. Press play below and enjoy it for yourself!

when i hear Darkchild.. i immediately think of Destiny’s child opening for Say My Name. So i totally get what ur sayin
love u blake!!
Thanks Michael, this sounds like it will be a big hit–I can’t wait. I wish Blake success, and you are giving him the publicity that he needs!! Of course, I am still waiting anxiously for the album releases from Adam Lambert (and Kris and Allison). Just wanted to let you know, that Adam will be on The View on 8/6 at 11 am on ABC. (Don’t know if it is a repeat, but it will record from my TIVO Wish List). In the show description, it says “Singer Adam Lambert” (does not mention Idol or AI runner up), and then Regis from “Regis and Kelly”. They gave more info about Regis, who is so famous, and then “singer Adam Lambert”, as if everyone knows who he is. I did not know where I could write this, but wanted to point it out–WORLD WIDE FAME IS COMING!!! Love you Mr Sleazak, and can’t wait for your American Idol recaps and Idolatry!!! Try to rest up now for the next AI Marathon.
I am so excited about Blake’s new record!! I’ve missed him!
