Tim Buckley, 'What Do You Do (He Never Saw You)': An exclusive stream

It’s not often that we get exclusives around here that are more than twice as old as Entertainment Weekly itself. But a never-before-released track from the late Tim Buckley — gifted singer-songwriter, ’60s folk pioneer, and talent lost, like his son Jeff Buckley, much too young — seems just too good to pass up.

Buckley, who released nine albums before his death from a drug overdose in 1975 at only 28, pushed the parameters of traditional folk music to include psychedelia, rock and even jazz. Now, some three-plus decades later, a 16-song set (six of them previously unreleased) recorded at a New York City club will now be available on the upcoming Live at the Folklore Center, NYC — March 6, 1967, out August 25.

The song below, “What Do You Do (He Never Saw You),” is the first sneak peak at the album; listen and tell us what you think:

Great news! New Buckley is always welcome. Now when can we expect “Starsailor” and “Blue Afternoon” to become available again? It’s a crime to let two of his greatest works languish in obscurity.

Oh my gosh– it’s just amazing to hear a song I’ve never heard, in that voice that’s so familiar. I think I’ve got a tear! Really looking forward to this.
