The Used, 'Born to Quit': A Music Mix exclusive stream

Fiery Utah-bred rockers the Used have been working for months on Artwork, their fourth full-length due August 31 — in fact, it’s their first studio album in over two years. (And an aggro cover of the Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” on the recent Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack doesn’t count for new, superfans).

But why should you have to wait, Music Mixer? You are a special person, with special access to special things, like this track “Born to Quit,” streaming exclusively here, before its wide release tomorrow.

So what do you think, readers? Are you ready for Artwork?

    I am sooooooo ready :)

  • Chris

So artwork is gonna be amazing.

  • Jose

dude, The Used used to be so much better in their first 2 albums
    what happened to them?

    • Manda

I know right!!!! I still LOVE their first two CDs and now they sound so different, but it’s not a good different -___-

      • Aaron

I agree but I disagree at the same time. Being a guitarist, I’m always trying to find ways to expand my ability to play different styles. I love their first albums, and I wish they would go back to that sound at some point but I think they’re just expanding their sound, and fanbase. That’s the point of being in a band, right? Musical freedom.

      • Jeremy

I agree completely with Jose and Manda. So far, neither of the two songs I’ve heard have impressed me, which is a drag because I’ve really been looking forward to this disc. Expanding abilities is one thing, but stock, predictable riffs is only expanding their marketability to the Nickleback/Puddle of Mudd radio world.

I agree with Jeremy.., These songs just haven’t lived up to the hype for me… I’ve loved The Used’s other albums but so far this isn’t making the cut… I’m still psyched, just not as excited as I was when I found out about Artwork in the first place.

You can’t group their first two albums up. Their self-titled was amazing. In Love and Death didn’t touch it at all. They’ve changed their sound on every CD and progressively it was getting worse, but this CD is so solid its not even funny.

      • Lauren

I just want to say that, yes, they’ve changed, but you have realize, they’re getting older. They’re not going through the same things they were when they wrote the songs on the first 2 albums. They’re maturing as people, and therefore maturing as artists and it’s showing in their music.

aha, guys the used have always been amazing.
and they changed labels i believe, something along those lines. they are bound to be different, its a good thing.. they are still amazing.
bert is still bert, the band is the band, take it ez

      • EmyfromVenezuela

        yeeeepp totally agreed

    • benny t

they pretty much pulled a Taking Back Sunday…

…they were awesome but then their sound got a little tooo commercial.

  • Shelly

this song is so great! i cant stop listening to it!:)

  • Joshua

Blood On My Hands is an Amazing song, this new one is good but a little concerning if the cd will be this mello or like Blood On My Hands, Not sure this was the next “best” single to release

  • michelle

this song’s greeeeaat.. and i disagree, i’ve loved every album so far.. and i have high expectations for artwork too!! =)

  • Leasha

This made me cry, I absolutely love it. Its a change…but a good one. Blood on my hands and this make me sooooooo pumped for Artwork

  • Zee

I get where u guys are coming from, but, always keep in mind that we wouldnt like it either if they ALWAYS sounded the same. They gotta experiment with the new stuff to attract more fans so that they can do better in their musical career. :]

  • Rebecca

    i Like it..
but i can’t decipher weather or not i like it because it’s the used or because it’s good. =/

    • nicole

you pretty much just took the words out of my mouth.

  • Amanda

This album is awesome, and I agree with those of you who said the first two are better, but I honestly didn’t like this album until I started listening to it. It is actually really good and I was blown away.

  • pedro

YOU GUYS ARE ALL GAY THE USED ROCKS!!!!!

  • danita

it sounds a bit like pop metal in the beginning..like a7x or something. usually their songs are mostly drum and bass with guitar in the chorus…but there’s more guitar here and there so its weird to me! :P i miss their dark sounding music though. this song, while good, sounds too happy…if you ignore the words. haha
but they do have a new producer.. who has been working with the more “poppier” bands like all time low, the maine, and such. so of course their sound is going to change with the change of producers. but also the used went through hell for the first 2 albums. im not so sure about the later 2, but still. i just feel like this album wont have the substance like the beginning two albums did for the fact that there have been less hardships for the band to overcome. who knows though right? also, bands grow up, they dont like to play the exact same music over and over and over again for shows, so i think this album is switching things up a bit. making it more fun for them to play live. and with dan working on this record from the beginning, the songs could also change. so its a lot of little things as to why musicians music changes over time.
but no matter where the used go, i will listen. i just cant wait for the artwork! :D

    • Diegotool

Totally agreed!!! the change was so obvious, otherwise it would be bored as musicians…so..if the fans don’t like it…it doeesn’t matter anyway…it’s a good change

    • Jesus

      Right on brother!

  • Diegotool

Excellent song!!! Goes forward!! It’s different, and that’s the good of a new album !! isn’t it?? some people just expect the same and are so narrowed mind!!!

  • skaterstomp

im just happy that these two songs dont sound like lies for the liars. that was my least favorite album but i still pre ordered their new album and i effin love blood on my hands

  • Shannon

Don’t you guys think that if The Used sounded the same on all of their records, you would get a tad bored with them?

    I know I would.
I’m anticipating “Artwork” with an open mind.
I’m sure it will be awesome.
