A couple of weeks back I wrote about an LA Times gallery which supposedly featured some of the worst album covers of all-time, but which included, to my eyes, some rather good examples of the art form. Now, AOL Radio have compiled lists of the best and worst album covers of the year so far based on listeners’ suggestions. Once again I have mixed feelings.
Several of the covers on the “best” list would seem more deserving of a place in the “worst” ten, notably the demon-and-crucifixion-featuring illustration that decorates Heaven & Hell’s The Devil You Know. And, while U2′s No Line on the Horizon cover is rather irritating in its twee tastefulness, I’m not sure it really belongs to be rubbing shoulders with the undeniably egregious artwork for Brooke Hogan’s The Redemption CD (see above. Although, much like the sun, it’s probably best not to look directly at it.)
On my previous blog I asked you to send in your nominations for a Worst Album of All-Time gallery. There were a lot of great suggestions, but we’ve still got room for a few more. Can you think of any image worse than an illustrated, wing-sporting, armpit-showing, Brooke Hogan? Let us know!

How do you feel about the cover of Madonna’s upcoming “Celebration,” Clark?
I think it’s irreverent and fun, and showcases the fantastic work of a visual artist – Mr. Brainwash – I’d never heard of before.

Aren’t you getting a little OT, MH?
The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this cover was Sonny painting album covers in Xanadu.
LOL – perfect comparison!
Though no comparisons between the beauty of ONJ and manly Brooke.
Brooke Hogan’s album cover (more like CD cover) is the worst cover from this year AND the past several years. Yikes!
just like a truck painting…
Yep, looks like something someone would have airbrushed onto a t-shirt in Florida in 1997.
Holy f**k is that the most awesomely horrible album cover ever. Ever ever ever. It looks like the hideous faux-Native American paintings my in-laws have in their house that gag/crack me up every time. Congrats, Brooke. It’s truly beyond words.
I kinda like the Empire of the Sun album cover that’s on the Worst list. It’s cheesy looking, but it perfectly captures the feel of the album.
I do not want to be jugding people but britanny is not angle, why have wings like such? For my own self, I do not thing it is funny to make jokes about the angles.
I think obtuse angles are friggin’ hilarious.
i think phnam ngyuen’s grammar is friggin’ hilarious
I now that my english is not good and I try to better. I am sorry to not right perfect like all here. But I do this because I love the entartainment news and stories.
“Crispy” and “Chicken” – care to take a crack at Phnam’s native tongue? I’m assuming it’s not English, but even if it is, you never make mistakes online?
My bad. Sorry Phnam!
Phnam Ngyuen, don’t even worry about idiots criticizing your English. It’s perfectly fine – the point of knowing a language is to be able to communicate in it, and you did that just fine. Everyone knows what you meant by your writing, which is the point. Lord knows most Americans don’t speak many foreign languages; I used to speak German pretty well, but I was nowhere near perfect at it.
Most Americans probably could not find Phnam’s native country on a map either. So do not worry about your grammer.
These people are assh-les, leave Phnam alone. Gah, the internet is so messed up. weel, not it itself, but most people that use it.
Ciara’s Fantasy Ride is by far the worst album cover of the year. There’s a tie for second place between the covers of Whitney and Mariah’s new albums (coming soon), as well as Kelly Clarkson’s 2009 album. Why can’t these ladies understand that no amount of photoshop can hide their level of fug. There are many a fug male musician who rightfully choose to adorn the front of their album with meaningful/beautiful artwork or graphic (whether it includes their own image or not) that doesn’t include their decrepit/bloated mugs plasticized by a 15 year-old gamer on MS Paint. If you look like that, own it…and if you just can’t deal…a landscape or floral still-life will do just fine. After all, we can’t see you through our speakers.
I don’t think Mariah’s art has been released yet.
Oh never mind. It’s awful.
And what do you look like Brenda. I bet you are no beauty yourself. You prolly pay someone to F**k you.
Are you seriously calling those women fugly? Give me a break.
Well, actually I do not think they are particularly attractive. There is no shame in that. My problem with them, however, is that instead of owning their looks (regardless of how attractive they are) and taking pride in their talent (or lack thereof), they feel the need to put falsified/horrifyingly photo-shopped pictures of themselves on the cover of their album. Of course they have the right to do this, but it doesn’t mean that it is superficial and offensive to the eyes. In fact, it not only further reinforces the unattainable model of the “plastic” and “perfect,” but also the idea that one has to constantly be ashamed of and trying to hide/improve their physical reality. Wake up people.
Attack of the Engrish! Hon, it’s not Brittany, It’s Brooke Hogan and I think you meant ANGEL. LOL!
It looks like something you would have seen painted on the side of a van…
OH MY GOD! Brooke Hogan’s cover is HORRIBLE! She is white trash…seriously…that belongs on a t-shirt at the Goodwill like 30 years ago.
Brooke Hogan as an angel? Riiiiight. I’m surprised the wings didn’t burst into flame at the cover’s modeling shoot. Come to think of it, the cover would have been a LOT more interesting if it did!
who cares about the album covers it is the music that counts
That’s a good point, but her music is actually worse than the cover art.
What’s truly funny about Brooke Hogan’s cover art is that the body looks nothing like her. She hasn’t had visible ribs or a toned stomach for as long as she’s been on TV. Her body is nice, don’t get me wrong – it just ain’t the one on the album cover.
I thought that The Beatles-Abby Road album cover should have been on the best list. Yes its very simple but its become an icon all in its own over the years. I have been to englad twice and each time i go out to abby road to sign the studio wall and take a picture walking across the road, do you know how many people are there, tons and tons.
