Whitney, Mariah, Madonna, or Barbra: Who's your favorite fall diva?

Fall-of-Diva_lPeruse the upcoming music release calendar and one theme crystallizes: This fall belongs to the diva.

Well, I suppose it remains to be seen if the fall will actually belong to bombastic songstresses — they’ve gotta make a splash with sales, appearances, airplay, and all that first. (And some diva-esque antics would probably help stir up some excitement, too. Just sayin’.) But the ladies pictured at the left here are surely making a play for dominance with four releases that have the potential to be huge.

First up, of course, is Whitney Houston’s comeback album, I Look to You, on Aug. 31. Then on Sept. 29, comes a trifecta of releases: Barbra Streisand’s Love is the Answer, Mariah Carey’s twice-delayed Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, and Madonna’s greatest-hits album Celebration. (Hilariously enough, The Hills‘ Heidi Montag drops her album the same day. But I’m not about to include her in the “diva” category.) The short of it is, it’s an exciting time to be a diva lover!

Still, I have mixed feelings about all the releases. I’ll give you a few words on my anticipation for each diva’s disc. Whitney: Excited, but nervous. Madonna: Sure, I’ll buy it all yet again. Duh. Barbra: Ehh, it’s Barbra, which is always so Barbra. Mariah: Love “Obsessed,” but the rest better be even better.

But let’s get real here — I’m going to buy them all. Again, duh! But what about all of you out there? Which of these four albums are you most excited about? If you only buy one, which will it be? Based on what you’ve heard so far, what are you loving most?

Definitely Madonna. I have absolutely no interest in the other three.

    • elr

Yes, that’s the same for me. Although, I am a bit interested in Whitney’s new cd, but not enough to buy it without hearing all of it first.

Um, forget those divas, the diva’s CD I am most looking forward to is ADAM LAMBERT’S CD!!!

    • HEATHER

You are so right about looking forward to Adam. He belongs in this category more than at least one of these divas! Still I am looking forward to Whitney. I like everything I have heard so far. ADAM ROCKS!

i’m most excited for mariah and will definitely be buying hers! love “obsessed”! can’t wait to hear the cover of “i wanna know what love is”. i will definitely pick up whitney’s also! not too keen on the ballads yet, but i love “million dollar bill”, “like i never left”, and “salute”. i probably wont pick up the albums from the other ladies. lol.

    Whitney Houston

  • MsDaisy

Does Aretha or Tina have anything coming out, ’cause these 4 are just not worthy.

  • Tibby

    MADONNA..NUF SAID

  • Kevin J. Coyne

Madonna, though I’m more pumped for the 2-DVD Celebration than the 2-CD edition, simply because I have most of the songs on the CD already.

  • john

where’s Miss Ross???? She is THE DIVA!

  • TOM O’LEARY

MsDaisy, When I saw Aretha at the Hollywood Bowl in June she sang a wonderful new song. It was the only song she sang at the piano. She said she would have a new CD in the Fall. But Aretha CD’s rarely arrive on time. She gave a fabulous concert by the way. The audience was in rapture.

I’m going to be getting all four like you, Tanner – DUH!!! I am looking forward to them in the following order:
Whitney – Can she make a comeback?
Barbra – Intrigued to see how this collaboration with Diana Krall (another fave of mine) will turn out
Madonna – Can’t wait to see what’s on this compilation
Mariah – Hope it’s better than E=MC2 (which wasn’t bad, but a bit of a letdown after Emancipation)

Unfortunately, even though this is her last collection for Warners, once again all of the hits are not there – check out the track list at Amazon – even Live To Tell is missing, which is ridiculous.

      • Ronald

Are you not getting it? They are confusing the fans to get them more interested on the compilation? They are not releasing an official track list and CELEBRATION is all gonna be more exciting.

  • Joe C

I have respect for all of the ladies here, but really, it’s Mariah’s world. Can’t wait for ‘Angel’!!!!!!

    • Edgar Colon

The problem is mariah’s world only includes the USA. She never will be a global powerful star like Madonna.

  • paige

i’d laugh and laugh if Madonna won them all with just a compilation cd. but yea, I’m a true blue Madonna fan and thats what I’m rooting for. I believe Whitney & Mariah are gonna be epic failures. Long live the Queen!

    • GinaBallerina

According to Billboard, Mariah is (and always will be) Queen. 18 #1s? The other ladies cannot say the same.
Mariah will beat them all, as usual.

      • Ronald

According to Billlboard, Madonna is the top solo artist (male or female) of the Hot100 chart. How does that compare to Mariah’s 18 no.1s. She only has 18 hits + a few more (I couldnt even name a single platinum single of hers, if she has one) but the Queen of Pop has more than 50 megahits and counting. Mariah is not even at the top 5. Please check the 50th Anniversary of Billboard’s Hot100 chart to verify.

      • Edgar Colon

Yes only 18 number ones in the USA and a few hip hop singles on the side. Madonna is a long way ahead of her.

    • Rylee

Madonna is the only Queen, she has broken every record set, highest grossing tour EVER, most top 10 hits EVER, she is unstopable & unbeatable and just keeps getting better… MADGE ALL THE WAY! Celebration is awesome, and she will beat the rest by simply releasing a compliation cd, because its Madonna’s World and we all dance in it!

  • Wes

I’m buying Madonna’s on CD and vinyl. Not buying the others at all. Don’t even care to hear them.

  • Ron

Madonna’s first single Celebration pretty much blows so I’m not hopeful about any of the other new material. Whitney is obviously the most anticipated and Million Dollar Bill should be a hit

  • Kalie

    MARIAH!
