The winner of the New Moon soundtrack sweepstakes has just been announced, Twilight superfans, and it is, on reflection, the perfect apex where Twi and twee meet: Death Cab for Cutie.
The Washington-State indie rockers have written and recorded the song “Meet Me On the Equinox” specifically for the ever-so-slightly anticipated second installment of the lusty-vampire series. The track will be unveiled Sept. 13 on MTV’s website during the Video Music Awards broadcast.
The entire New Moon soundtrack, curated by music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy) will hit stores Oct. 20. In general, it’s shaping up to be an even alt-ier effort than the original Twilight mix, with names like Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear and double-timers Muse all rumored to be included.

Oh, Alexandra Patsavas was also the music supervisor on The OC. So Death Cab makes a lot of sense now. She has phenomenal taste in music.
agreed! I love this chick!!! she has the BEST taste and I can say actually really shaped the music i enjoy today so it’s a no brainer this soundtrack will be even better than the first.

What’s wrong with people. The only twilight fans u see are the crazy talkative ones, there are twilight fans who don’t aren’t as expressive of their feelings. I think it’s funny how u assume we r “stealing” your music. I’m a twilight fan and I own three muse CDs, and also have radiohead and death cab music! That’s ridiculous bcuz ilove their music. Also if u were such a fan then did u know death cab wrote the song and submitted it specifically for new moon? It’s not stealing if they themselves want to be in it. Also Thome yorke was interested in new moon himself! Besides I’m sure some fans aren’t going to do research and actually look up the bands to steal “your” music

I’ll say one thing for Twilight and apparently New Moon now, too: The soundtracks are great. Although I didn’t need Twilight to know who Muse was, unlike a lot of other people. *sigh*

well so far DCFC is the only one CONFIRMED.. but billboard.com says “All of the songs in “New Moon” will be exclusive to the film, all either written specifically for the movie or never available anywhere else.” so that gives me great hope that it’s not just random songs people have been suggesting that are years old

I am so excited to hear this news (and even more excited to hear the song). I am a huge Death Cab fan, and I have been following the progress of the New Moon Soundtrack. I wouldn’t necessarily peg Death Cab as the perfect band to correspond with Twilight, but I know they will do the job perfectly. I guess both New Moon (the book) and Death Cab stuck a chord with me because of their glorious emo(without actually being emo)-ness. So it fits. Still crossing my fingers for Kelly Clarkson though. She would be the perfect fit for the album–even if it is really alt-y. I mainly just want to hear the track “Empty As I Am,” so even a single of it would do. Can’t wait for New Moon!

Who the heck is Death Cab for Cutie lol…and what a lame name! I was so disappointed in the Twilight album…I only bought it because it had a picture of Edward and my mom buys me anything with Edward on it…sooo dreamy! I hope they put Lady Gaga on New Moon…I would be sooo happy! Just dance!

Wow are you serious? This is either some “fan” that only likes twilight because of rob pattinson and will get over it after the movies end or her friends stop liking it, or this is some loser who wastes his time trying to convince people that twilight fans have no brains at all.
