Carrie Underwood, 'Cowboy Casanova': Hear the new single here

American Idol’s Season 4 winner turned platinum country cowgirl Carrie Underwood has leaked the first single from her upcoming album, and it’s all about the wrong kind of cowboy — “candy-coated misery/ He’s the devil in disguise /A snake with blue eyes.”

Watch “Cowboy Casanova” (and catch the early intro featuring Tammy Wynette’s classic “Stand by Your Man”) below:

What do you think, Music Mixers — the second coming of radio-crossover smash “Before He Cheats,” with its big-bang chorus and crunchy guitars? Will you be waiting for the November 3 release of her third album, Play On?

wow, that song never met a cliche it didn’t like. good job Nashville! it’s loud, though, so it’ll be a hit.

Don’t blame Nashville, blame American Idol. Nashville has a great many good songwriters none of whom where used on this album (at least not mentioned by her promo team yet).

Kinda underwhelming. Who is the producer on this? Mutt Lange? I hear some of his influence. Maybe she wanted a Shania sounding record.

Leah it’s ‘Cowboy Casanova’ not ‘Casanova Cowboy’.

I’m liking it! It sounds different for Carrie and different than anything out there now. Favorite lines: “he’s a good time cowboy casanova leaning up against the record machine/looks like a cool drink of water but he’s candy coated misery.” Very punchy chorus.

cliche or not, the girl (and her team) can do no wrong. #1 album #3 comin up.

  • couchgrouch

well, it’s very loud and she looks great in the videos so it’s bound for #1. but “standing by the record machine”?!…geez, that was hackneyed on Jump.

Was she the one that dated Tony Romo?? Maybe she was warning Jessica.

Fantastic song!! Can’t get it out of my head!!

First thing I noticed was the Mutt/Shania influence. Man I feel like a woman meets before he cheats

  • the bigone

Great tune. Should be a #1. And to boot, she is gorgeous!!!!!

It’s catchy as hell, and I kind of love it on first listen. It’s going to be one of those turn-it-up, girls’ bar anthems. Better than Last Name for sure.

  • justina

i love it but then again i love anything carrie does…i think she has no problem rolling out those hits..she a hitter not a quitter!..this song is definitely very shania!!….love them both!!

  • Valerie

Why don’t you ever tell us who the songwriters are?

  • DR

Oh! Please I better not hear anything about cliches, when you have taylor swift talking about princes, princesses, romeo, juliet and all things high scool.Yet, she’s on every freaking station. So if you can tolerate her you can certainly tolerate Carrie.Don’t be hypocrites. This is different for Carrie.Isn’t that’s what everybody been wanting to hear from her, so now you got it and live with it.You use to say when is she gonna take a risk.Well she did, and did it knowing the heat she could get for it anyway. That’s artistry when you take a risk.Hate on haters.
