Glee's version of 'Somebody to Love': Awe-capella!

We’ve already seen the choir-kid comedy hit Glee take their version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” to the top of the charts again (though it was hardly the immortal 1981 power ballad’s first resurgence).

Now, have they done it again with Queen’s chest-poundingly rawsome “Somebody to Love,” which will appear on the Sept 30 episode, featuring guest star Kristin Chenoweth as a glee-club alum)? Very possibly. Check it out after the jump.

With the official soundtrack Glee: The Music, Volume 1, due soon, what will be your number one? Their take on REO Speedwagon’s “I Can’t Fight This Feeling”? Kanye’s “Goldigger”? Sing it in the comments section below, Gleeks!

Love, love, love this version of “Somebody To Love.” But I think my faves so far have to be “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Golddigger.”

    • Callia

I think I saw a video of them performing this at the upfronts, with ***spoiler alert*** Quinn AND Puck as glee club members. (I’m shipping them, btw.)

  • Kat

i cant get over how talented they are. The vocals on this are oustanding. really great. my fave so far Golddigger, Take a Bow and Dont stop believing. love this show!

    • Heidi

oh yes I forgot about take a bow. I liked that one. It was quieter but really lovely.

  • Jess

Mine would be when Mercedes sang “Bust Your Windows”. Amazing.

  • graeme

I’m still obsessed with “Take A Bow”.

    • Lorie

      Me too!

  • Jessica

Somebody to love is one of my all time favorite songs. I didn’t think I would like anyone else besides Freddy Mercury singing it, but I was amazed by this version. That girl can sang! It literaly sent chills down my spine!

  • Heidi

I love it all, frankly! Golddigger was maybe the best in terms of being great and funny at the same time – but I love musical theatre so this show just knocks it out of the park with every single they do. count me in as buying up their cd on the first day.

Lea Michele in particular is amazing!
Check her out on the soundtrack of the musical ‘Spring Awakening’! It won a bunch of Tomy awards and a Grammy awards and she was the female lead.

    • Callia

I saw her in Spring Awakening on Broadway (second row!), and that’s the whole reason I got into this show. She’s fantastic.

      Corrected post:
Lea Michele in particular is amazing in those short schoolgirl skirts!

  • Heidi

BTW Sandy was the star of this song if you ask me. He’s got the richest pipes! What a find :)

  • Andrew Machado

Can I embed a youtube video in here?

  • Rebecca

This is my favorite so far. When I heard it in the previews, I was so excited that they were doing this song. It is a great showcase of all the kids’ talents.

  • Chris

I like this show and watch every week, but when they bust into song, it just seems so slick and produced that it makes the lip syncing look really bad. They need to make the musical numbers seem as if they’re actually singing it in a practice room, not a studio.

    • Brigid

Completely agree. This is my biggest problem with the show. I can forgive stereotypes and cliches, but the awful lip synching takes the rest of the fun away.

  • maria

is the Puck character seeing on it? Or Kurt?

    • Callia

I think there’s a lot Finn, Rachel, and Amber, with a fair amount of Artie, and some Quinn and Puck, as well. I LOVE this version… even better than Don’t Stop Believing, and that’s saying something!

  • Luddite

Such an amazing song – I always wanted to sing it in choir (but alas, we were stuck with Moses Hogan spirituals and wacky Eric Whitacre and an endless supply of stuff in Latin). Anyway, this sounds pretty amazing – I’ve been waiting impatiently to hear this on the show since it showed up in one of the ads this summer.
