I’m sure that her closing her blog had nothing to do with the many excellent questions she received yet refused to answer, nor with the fact that she was identified 3 times as a copyright infringer herself:
1. She copied a techdirt article onto her blog.
2. She copied 2 newspaper articles onto her blog.
3. She was distributing mix tapes with unauthorized tracks from other musicians on her EMI website.
Also, I wish just someone in the music industry would answer me these two simple questions:
1. What is wrong with the current copyright penalties that you need (temporary) disconnection/bandwidth reduction to be added on top of it?
2. Why should we allow a private party to have such a penalty inflicted based on unproven accusations, and without judicial oversight?
3. Why do you think such penalties are fair towards normal consumers, yet when you yourself are found guilty of copyright infringement have all sorts of excuses that would never be considered valid as a defense for the average consumer? Does the law not apply to you too?
That doesn’t make any sense. If the article is being used on the internet it is in no way infringement of any kind. You’re actually telling people that it’s o.k. for magazines to post blogs causing damage to Lily Allen”s character, but it”s not o.k. for her to do it. That makes you a hypocrite not her.
I can see that my ability to count has left me as the years have passed away. I meant of course three simple questions.
Oh, how sad, the ignorant hypocritical incoherent 3-strikes-you’re-out 3-time-copyright-infringer Lily Allen is quitting the business she insists is being “destroyed”
I’ll have my 15 seconds of mourning, but mostly over the disappearance of her hilarious (in its stupidity) blog.
I don’t think Lily Allen is in it for the money, Do people think that Sony record Lily Allens albums for free and distribute world wide for free or something. Engineers cost money, Pro-tools costs in the ten of thousands of dollars just the software to record this does not include plugins or mixing consols or amps or even microphone. One good microphone can cost ten’s of thousands of dollars then their is the musical equipment Not free either the simple cost is an average album costs a $250,000 dollars to produce on the cheap when Sony gives that to an artist they expect to make more back in album sales, then their is marketing, advetising, Promoting and activly self promoting all hours of the day and night, I guess that is all free as well?, I won’t even get into the logistics of touring arranging equipment cos every music shop has a 1,000 watt PA available to all artists for free.
Here is my point unless you have paid to produce your own EP / Album or are even a musician that has written their own material you have no right to enter this debate and sledge artists over making an income or in most casses attempt to recove most of the cost of producing.
It costs an artist alot of money to even produce a DEMO good enough to get a label to want to make an album on average $10,000 to up to $60,000 and this is the average cost of a DEMO to produce 1,000 to 2,000 CD’s without distribution.
So the next time you think that Lily Allen is only in it for the money not the music, go pay to make your own Demo at a recording studio and tell me how free that was? and how free your equipment is? and then how many people copied your DEMO?.
I recently heard a Lily Allen song -and then heard more songs from her – and I am in love with her music now. And then to hear this news, please say it ain’t so…yes, she’s had her troubles (remember we are talking about the music industry here). However, I do think Lily should recognize she doesn’t have a battle with piracy; she needs to learn how to use it to her advantage. She’s only 24…and for her to go from obscurity to instant fame with her first album, which she herself promoted via MySpace, can be quite daunting. Yes, she’s very lucky. However, I hope Lily sees the bigger picture. Her music does influence quite a bit; and dang, her second album is quite amazing. I hope the America, MTV, radio and the Grammys notice her much more. I know I am now a fan. Lily – don’t quit making music – you got talent!
