Taylor Swift on 'SNL': Let the Kanye yukks begin

Judging by the first promos to be released for Taylor Swift’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live this weekend, there will be more riffs on Kanye than a South Park episode:

We know Taylor can take a good prank at her own expense; but will this weekend’s episode devolve into one long ‘Ye rant? Despite bloggy rumors, neither the singer’s publicist nor reps for the show itself would confirm whether West will actually make a surprise appearance—though SNL did say more promos would be released tomorrow evening.

Swift talked to MTV about the taping today, saying, “I want to look nothing like myself. I told all the writers, ‘Don’t count anything out.’ I want to go completely, 100 percent in. I don’t want to be halfway involved. Just because I have a lot of things to do as far as being musical guest and host doesn’t mean I don’t want to live up to my full hosting demands.”

We can haz Penelope skit? Also, no painful Madonna/Gaga-style improvs, por favor. But seriously, how does this promo bode for the upcoming show? And what are you expecting from Taylor, musical-guest and host-wise?

If Taylor Swift forgave him why would she even go along with this and stir the pot some more?

    • Brian

Because not to would be lame?

      • who gives a f

Yawn…SNL blows and if they think doing a parody on the Kanye v Taylor fiasco will make the show any better they are sadly mistaken…I didn’t give a F when it happened and I don’t give an F about it now…BOOO SNL bring back Will Farrell and Tina Fey

        haha, hell yeah.
        it’s like- who cares?
they’re both getting paid and they are both getting publicity :P

Because he’s in on it – he’ll be there of course to help repair his own reputation and to allow her the chance to get ‘hers’.

He came back from his self-imposed exile with a Tweet complaining about her getting number of American Music Award nominations.

If Kanye does show up and make fun of the incident along with Taylor, it would be an epic win for everyone involved and people would finally shut up about it for once and for all.

AGREED. I almost don’t want them to do anything at all with it, because it finally just settled down and as much as I love Taylor and hate Kanye, I think we’ve all moved past it, and we all agree that Taylor wins.

I think she’s has tremendous talent (as proved by a CSI epsiode, and a previous sketch) and they could do so much better than that.

I thought everyone already HAD shut up about it. Multiple Kanye West references would just be beating a long-dead horse.

I think part of the comedy in this promo is that everyone has shut up about it. And now… They’re definitely going to take the “enough already” route.

I think it works. Plus, Taylor Swift seems really willing to do anything she can to make it an awesome show. I think she’s going to be great. Plus, we know the music part will rock because she’s not a studio performer. Some bands get up there and bomb SNL because it’s live. I think she’s going to hold her own.

        But let’s be honest… She’s no Steve Martin…

  • Shamrock

    Overkill!

A joke or two pertaining to the Kanye incident might be funny, but I really hope they don’t overdo it. I’m over the whole thing and I think that focusing on it too much would just be lame.

  • Jamie

I think Taylor will do an excellent job as host and musical guest – it will all depend on what the writer’s write for her, it could be good or bad. But I hope for no Kanye/VMA skits. So last month and Taylor already said something about she had many ideas?? Me? I’m excited about the Digital Short, considering Andy was not present at the last show.

  • amanda

gotta agree if kanye were to show and they both were part of the jab that would be fun,but i would rather snl stayed away from doing anything more than a a couple(and i mean no more than 2)references to this incident that taylor(as well as kanye)has made peace w/ each other

  • Manny

K first of all it is really lame that MTV has Video Awards; they do not even show videos anymore! And the performers are all gimmicky and lame, some fat chick singing a song from a trapeze…haha wtf! And some other crazy skank spilling fake blood all over herself! really! That is artsy? hmmm I dont think so…Oh yeah Taylor and Alcoholic West, they are so feeding from each other. SNL lame! not even funny bring back some talent SNL…MTV bring back videos it is shameful you call yourself Music Television!

  • Harry Peters

YES!!! I’ve been waiting for this!!!

Wait … oh, that says promo clip not porno clip. Never mind.

    • Shamrock

      Classic

  • CHRIS

Taylor Swift pulling double duty? WOW! SNL how the mighty have fallen1

  • Sean

Other than some funny stuff during last year’s election, SNL has been hit and miss (mostly miss) for years. Lorne Michaels needs to hand the talent selection reins over to someone funny. Maybe they can fill this show with a talented cast of performer/writers. Andy Samberg, Kristin Wiig and Seth Meyers can stay but everyone else should go. If you put the last 10 years together, you could make one great cast. Tina Fey and Will Farrell should be hired as producers and help cast this mess and get it back on track. What used to be a breeding ground for comedy legends has become a dumping ground for comedy talents. There are dozens of brilliant comedic talents out there. Find them. Hire them. Use them.

  • SNL should’ve been cancelled YEARS ago…

…and they’ve been throwing their overrated and useless talent out into movies/television too. Yeah, I’m talking Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Andy Samberg, Jimmy Fallon, Tracy Morgan.

    • ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

      Thank you!
People buy into anything that’s considered “comedy” today.
I guess they will take what they can get.

  • Dory

I’m actually looking forward to Taylor hosting. I think she’ll do a good job if the writers actually decide to produce something for her that is funny.

  • TheObserver

I’ll definitely be watching. I wish Taylor Lautner would pull a Jessica Biel and show up in one of her sketches! I love Taylor Squared/Swiftner (whichever blows your hair back)

  • Jess

When will Taylor’s career finally end? I am sick of hearing her off pitch voice everywhere I go.

    • suckitjess

      Very simple, DO NOT LISTEN!

  • Emily

I thought the promo was cute, and a little mention of the Kanye thing–maybe during the monologue and then that’s IT, would be fine–actually, if Keenan interrupts her monologue as Kanye, that could be very funny! I don’t know why people hate her so much, she’s a cute girl with talent–yeah, I think she’s talented, flame away!
