Chris Brown moves up album release and talks about Rihanna on MTV: 'Why did it happen?'

Categories: Chris Brown, News, Rihanna

chris-brown_lWhile ABC teased Diane Sawyer’s interview with Rihanna this morning, MTV has released details of a news special, Chris Brown: The Interview. In the show, which airs this Friday at 6pm ET, Brown will talk about his attack on Rihanna and tell MTV correspondent Sway, “My thoughts [when I look back on the incident] is like, ‘Why did it happen? What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?’” Brown also admits that the assault was triggered by “anger” and discusses how therapy has helped him assess his actions.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Brown confirmed to EW that the release of his new album, Graffiti, has been pushed up a week to December 8.

What do you think of the fact that both Rihanna and Brown are talking about the incident in the same week? Is it good that the subject is getting such a public airing?

They are talking about it the same week because they are both trying to sell albums

      ^^^the truth^^^

    • Fatima

Maybe less so with Chris, but if Rihanna wants to release more music (which is her career), she is going to have to talk about what happened. Maybe it seems like it’s all publicity, but if she wants any promo for the album, she’s going to get asked these questions.

      • Kevin

She is perfectly within her rights to refuse to answer such questions. I’d encourage her to do so unless she wants to perform media relations against “domestic” violence”. Otherwise it’s none of our business.

  • Corliss

People make mistakes they should get back together.

    • ernie

That is not “one mistake”. That is a pattern. They both need to be single for a while. If they got back together, I would be 1,000,000 dollars it would happen again.

    • Sally

Corliss – yes you are so right, they’re were and are the BesTest couple in the celebrity world. They give the words “Till Death. . ” new and absolute meaning

    • Marcy

Let them get back together – then she and he will not be able to beat, slap, kick, shove or abuse anyone else in the world – truly deserving of each other

    • millsy

Corliss, he beat her. That wasn’t a “mistake” it was not an “accident”. Nobeody should put up with pysical or mental abuse. She did the right thing by getting out and staying out.
Don’t ever put up with this behaviour it helps nobody and kills many.

    • Kevin

I just beat the crap out of you. Oops! Sor-ry hon-ey!

  • c

he abused her multiple times, not just once!

    • Ama

Were you there? How do you know? Do you know her action too? I am so fed up with everyone talking as if they have all the facts and judge them so harshly based on an incomplete story.

      • Kevin

Incomplete? He beat the crap out of her. Period. We know this. He admits it. That’s a complete enough story for me. So guess what? I’m gonna judge him harshly.

    • Muffy

She also abused him mutiple times! Why are some of you are ignoring that?!

Chris is too nice. She should’ve dated someone like Eminem, because he would not have taking the fall alone! She’s the only pserson in history, who was beated to a bloody pulp, but was healed the next day. lmao

  • Marcy

NICE TIMING EW… did you all notice where this story is in relation to the Rih’ story -

  • Blue Silver

    What a big horse’s ass!!!!

  • Greg

At least he’s getting counseling and learning from it, when Her next man kicks her behind I guess that’s Chris’s fault too…

    • A&O

Actually, Greg, yes – to some extent, that would be his fault. Chronically angry abusers use physical and emotional violence, and threats of violence, to punish and control, and convince the victim that she’s useless and not good enough. Unless Rihanna seeks extensive help, she will repeat these patterns in her relationships, and gravitate over and over toward people who treat her this way. Is it good that they’re talking publicly about it? Not really, considering they’re only doing it to rehab their images long enough to sell some records. I don’t have a lot of hope for either one of them, frankly.

  • Elizabeth

I think it is good that they’re both telling the story at the same time. Too many times we always hear from the victim, but we never hear from the one who inflicted the damage. It might encourage people to get help or get out of the situation if they are in one.

    • Marcy

Telling their story – to different degrees – her on GMA (not exactly a hard hitting [pun] news outlet] and him to MTV – wow they do news and here I just thought they did bad reality shows

  • Blue Silver

Getting counseling is one thing. Learning from it is another, and is either hit or miss. Brown has done that many times before. I won’t be an idiot and infer that her next man will possibly do the same; that is just speculating or assuming it will happen. I don’t know of many people who would actually tolerate or be sympathetic to a woman beater!!

  • Leila

Good for him for getting counseling and trying to understand the reasons for his actions. Only time will tell if he’s sincere, but I hope he will learn a lesson from this experience.

  • SammieB

He’ll never change. He’s a monster. All he cares about is his image and potential $$. His career is O-V-E-R. Animal.

    • Nikki

Wow…guess you don’t believe in rehabilitation!

    • sandy

You are so stupid. Open your mind both of them caused events that led to the incident. What about her emotional and physical abuse. She is ddangerous because she is promiscious.

  • michelekamay

    I gotta feeling,
that those two will get back together,
that those will get back together,
that those will get back back together,
    a feeling (woohoo…)

    • michelekamay

      erratum:
      “I gotta feeling,
that those two will get back together,
that those two will get back together,
that those two will get back back together,
      a feeling (woohoo…)”

  • Phil

Not that i have anything against Sway on Mtv, but don’t you think that Mtv could have asked someone like John Norris or even Kurt Loder to have grilled Brown? I mean, i know this is Mtv here and not Larry Kane, but do you honestly think that Chris felt uncomfortable by this interview with Sway? I DOUBT IT. And honestly, HE SHOULD FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. This is the 1st time he’s speaking since accepting his punishment for beating Rihanna. I understand Mtv’s need to strike while the iron is hot, airing the interview hours before 20/20 tom. but I think they basically made Chris feel as comfortable as he wanted to tell his side, which I really don’t think is cool. Someone like maybe Alexa Chung shoulda grilled him & not known what to expect.

  • Hazlynn

I think Chris was wrong but I don’t believe Rihanna was without fault. I believe she hit him first. I will still buy his records and hers.

  • Kris

Ozzy Osborne beat his wife “B-hind” on more than one occasion without regret and they are still married (she wasn’t trying to leave all that money). But I guess that is okay because he was strung-out on drugs and booze. Get real with the double standards!

  • KAD

I agree with Hazlynn he shouldn’t have beat her but she also shouldn’t have beat on him first. There’s a lesson here for both men and women and at least he’s getting help. I hope she takes some anger management classes as well as the therapy or support group she’s obviously been to since the incident. I’m buying his album and will probably buy hers.

    • Kevin

      KAD:
Can you please link to proof of your allegations that she hit him first (or even hit him at all)? Thank you.

  • fancypants

why does CB think his album will be anywhere near successful if he releases it on 12/8?! he’s just setting himself up for failure. since the beat up rihanna, he should be laying low, getting therapy, donating money to combat domestic abuse, do his community service, make some PSAs about how domestic abuse needs to be addressed, etc
then release an album late next year. he needs to change and people need to believe he’s changed if he wants to save his career.

  • amy

the media should be blaming both of them not only Chris, because Rhianna hit him too. people have double stantdard.

  • KENYA

THEY ARE BOTH TRYING TO SELL ALBUMS IF THEY ARE NOT TALKING THEIR CAMPS ARE THAT THE ONLY WAY THEY BOTH ARE ON THE TV EXPLAINING THEIR POINTS IN THE SAME WEEK THE SHOW ARE PRE-RECORDED. THEIR MANAGEMENT CAME TO AN AGREEMENT TO GO PUBLIC AT THE SAME TIME. SEEM LIKE A JON&KATE +8
    IT ALL ABOT THE MONEY
IF CHRIS WOULD HAVE COME OUT SOONIER TO ADMIT AND OVER COME ASAP IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER AND HE WOULD HAVE EARNED HONEST SELL.

  • Vivian

They both are talking because they are about to release new albums. But that dosen’t really matter if Rihanna talking can help other girls and Chris talking can help men who are abusing. So it is a good think, but I don’t plan on buying either one of the albums.

  • kelly

hi guy all of you are talking stupid ,i hate chris no matter what rihanna did to him she is a woman chris brown should not hit her, any woman that is supporting chris brown is an idiot & stupid becos you have no idea what is like to assaulted, any woman who is supported of chris brown for what he did to rihanna i wish it will happen to any of you there idiot. loser’s

  • thedirtylibrarian

She’s dangerous because she’s promiscuous? Really? I’ve never heard of any woman’s party parts giving a man a black eye. That’s just one of the most ignorant, sexist statements ever made. You think he’s not getting his? Really? But she’s the dangerous one…

  • christina

    Publicity stunt, of course
