New She & Him album, tour due early next year

It’s been more than 500 days since She & Him—a.k.a. actress/singer/professional pixie Zooey Deschanel and singer/songwriter/folk monster M. Ward—released their debut, Volume 1.

Now, Deschanel confirms that the duo will return in spring of 2010 with another collection of sunny, Canyon-esque quirk-pop. “It’s official. It’s done and being released in the spring,” she recently told MTV. “And we’re going to go on tour.”

Watch dead cowgirl Zooey get down with cartoon blood and birds in the video for Vol. 1’s “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here,” below and tell us–are you giddy? Or done with showbiz/songbiz twosomes?

I’m SO excited!! I loved Volume 1, but I didn’t get to see them in concert.

Woo hoo! I knew they were recording Vol. 2; so happy the release time is soon. I saw them live in Chapel Hill, NC and it was a GREAT show…I hope they play near me again. Love the band, love the music!

I’m very excited. Happy to hear it’s coming soon(ish) cause Volume 1 has been played and played on my stereo, I need more tunes.

Finally! Been looking forward to it. Also, I sure hope they make a stop in Montreal this time around. Last time, Toronto was their only Canadian stop. Bourns.

I’m incredibly excited. And the music video linked here should be the Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt bank dance to “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” It is so much better than the original music video.

Meh. Their first album was just ok. There were a couple of great songs, but sometimes her voice is way too nasal and very irritating.

I am so excited I just love Zooey, and M. Ward’s music is amazing. We’ve been spoilt I believe, what with She & Him Volume One then M. Ward’s solo album Hold Time, then Matt as apart of Monsters of Folk, now soon Volume Two. I hope to catch She & Him on tour this time. I hope they add more Canadian dates to their tour as well. I’m so excited, I consider this an early Christmas present.

Giddy. Volume One was one of last year’s best albums.

    • kelly

Ben Gibbard is the luckiest man alive. I saw She & Him in concert last year and Zooey is as every bit as adorable in person as on screen. Maybe in another life I’ll come back as lead singer of Death Cab For Cutie.

Loved their version of The Smiths’ “Please Let Me Get What I Want” from the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack. There is something about the ethereal quality of her voice that goes so perfectly with that song.
