If EW had any class, the title of this article would be “She Was Robbed.” All you care about is attracting people to your blog. So glad I’m no longer a subscriber.
Whitney will always be the ultimate diva and songstress. the fact is the singles didn’t make it to the top ten, but the album is doing well, she is still eligle for the 2011 grammy’s and I am sure she will get nominations then.
WHITENY WAS ROBBED!!! I look to you was one of the best albums of the year. No, whitney doesn’t sound like she used to, but this is ridiculus. You could probably make a case for her not getting nominated in a general catigory, but she a least should have been nominated for r&b awards. How does t-pain get nominated for best contemporary r&b album over whitney. And every song on whitney’s album are better than jamie foxx’s blame it… This is like when Alicia Keys’ As I Am received no nominations as an album (but at lest she got nominated for something). Beyonce had better dominate, or I will be double upset. Whitney should feel good knowing that everyone is surprised by her lack of nominations. And why couldn’t million dollar bill be nominated for best r&b female performance… She sounded great on that song. This along with dmb getting nominated for aoty… the grammies made some really big mistakes… GO BEYONCE!! SORRY WHITNEY!!
Ditto
I’m definitely shocked that Whitney got snubbed but let’s not forget, she’s still in the running for next year’s Grammy Nominations. I have a gut feeling that 2010 will be another incredible year for Ms. Houston!!
They missed her for the 2010 awards but I hope they nominate her for the 2011 awards or if she can record and release another album at that time! You can’t ignore Whitney!
EW what a waste of an article! How you’ve continued to bash and hate on Whitney Houston is simply mind boggling. Yes she deserved to be nominated for multiple awards and win them. It seems to me that people like you want to see her fail. What a sad country we live in.
Honestly, I am frustrated but I’ll be focusing more on buying/promoting her album. Indeed, its true she was robbed from getting a Grammy this year. But Whitney will take it in stride..coz she has seen the worse and this nothing to our Queen Diva!! We love you Whitney!!!
Whitney just isn’t relevant to what’s hot in music this year. Get over it. She’s had her time on top.
I think she put the album out on her own terms, not if she was going to be nominated. I think the Grammys fondly thought of Whitney Houston’s album, but they were all too caught up by Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Black Eyed Peas,Lady Gaga Dave Matthews Band, Maxwell, U2, Eminem, Green Day and others to put her in the nominations. It was just too crowded with the music competition in 2009 that they couldn’t even put her in one of the nominations. But maybe they feel that Whitney’s won enough awards and her ’80s hits and Bodyguard soundtrack show The Voice the most over her newer material.
with all her current downfalls (mostly vocally, & yes, it does get
better if you hear performances since september)she still IS of the very best singers/song interpreters around. “i look to you” is superb work. the comparison to bionce is humiliation to WHs work past AND present. still expecting her strengthening & future well- deserved recogniions.
love ya whitney, always and forever!! i look to you is a great album. her voice aint as good as it was years ago, but its still very good.and for those who say she cant sing anymore, listen to her performance on wetten dass. one word: amazing. especially the high note towards the end.
also, whitney was one of the first female afro-americans to get rotation on mtv, like mj. she opened doors for many black women singers like beyonce, mary j, brandy and alicia etc. i think i look to you should be her last album as whatever she does after this, critics will just jump on.
whitney is a symbol of hope. she proved that drugs dont have to ruin your life and as long as u stay faithful in god, u can get back on ur feet. the grammys are not very good this year, in my opinion
Yes, whitney was robbed . Ew, u all are so disingenous. If Whitney had put out a niche album, it would not have sold and you would have bashed her.
She put out an album that she wanted to put out- songs based on redemption, hope, joy and she sounds vibrantand full of emotion wiht some of the best phrasing on record that I’ve heard. The album is selling well. You are the same critics that bashed her for singing high, big and long notes 15yrs ago,. She can’t win. I was so upset as I read the list of nominees searching for her name.
I’m still disappointed. Whitney, continue to hold your head up. what don’t kill u will make u stronger. I will be purchasing 2 more copies as xmas gifts because the album is good and also as a big F. U to NARAS voters for overlooking one of the best albums of the year.
now hopefully EW will leave her alone …………i hope you guys get canceled
I think the Grammy nominations basically state where music is mostly this past year: In the trash. It is certainly about what is going on in the industry. They have done their job. The embarrassment is ours. There are a few deserving nominations but the omission of Houston and some of the other real and proven talent is a time marker on the crap we have been hearing on the radio lately. Whitney Houston gave us real vocals not glossed over slick pop. She and her record company could have surely cleaned up some of the vocals and made you believe that the voice of a forty-something woman had not changed in twenty years but instead gave us something tangible. I am glad she is selling records which is the true test. She has won enough awards. I would like to see if half of these nominees are around and relevant in twenty years.
You are so right!
I was in the audience at the American Music Awards this year and listening to Whitney Houston sing clear as a bell when every other artist was drowned out in just about anything they could find I finally understood just what singing was all about. It was an incredible revelation that I am glad I was able to experience. I am still a fan of Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson etc but I will no longer make a fool out of myself by even comparing them remotely to this woman. I wasn’t around back in the day but this current voice of hers is her gift diminished I am floored. I immediately brought her CD. She is truly a gift to the music industry and deserves any award they can give her.
Amen Jerome!
Wow. Couldn’t have said it better myself Jerome.
