For Your Entertainment, The E.N.D, and Jason Mraz were the albums I couldn’t stop playing this year. FYE will probably have legs well into 2010.

melaine fiona is THE breakout artist of (the end) of 2009. of course lady gaga ruled the world, and although cliche’ “single ladies” was THE song of the year.

  • Manny

My favorite albums were Muse’s Resistance and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s It’s Blitz. I really liked Green Day, the Dead Weather, Silversun Pickups and U2′s new albums also. But the best song of the year for me was Incubus’ “Black Heart Inertia.” That song kicked a**!!!!

  • Manny

Raekwon and Mos Def dropped great albums too!!

  • Glenn

Album of the year lists are tough when you don’t divide it up by genres. So here are my tob 5 albums of 2009 for a few of my favorite genres:

    1. Maxwell – BlackSummersNight
    2. Alicia Keys – Element of Freedom
    3. Trey Songz – Ready
    4. Keyshia Cole – A Different Me
    5. Joss Stone – Clour Me Free!
    Honorable Mention:
    6. Keri hilson – In A Perfect World

    Hip-Hop
    1. Jay-Z – Blueprint 3
    2. Eminem – Relapse
    3. Drake – (LP and mixtapes)

    4. John Mayer – Battle Studies
    5. Rihanna – Rated R
    Honorable Mentions:
    6. Chris Brown deserves notice, outside of his criminal behavior he put out a very decent pop/r&b album
    7. Jordin Sparks – Battlefield (5 really strong tracks mixed in with some ok stuff)

    Rock/Alternative
Kings Of Leon – Only By The Night deserves the top spot here, hands down, cause there songs were played everywhere throughout 2009 but they aren’t eligible since it was released in 2008
    1. Dave Matthews Band – Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King
    2. U2 – No Line On The Horizon
    3. Paramore – Brand New Eyes
    4. Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown
    5. OneRepublic – Waking Up

Country (not sure of album titles)
    Carrie Underwood
    Sugarland (live)
    Lady Antebellum
    Taylor Swift – Fearless
    Rascal Flatts

Note: Haven’t heard anything from Yeah Yeah yeahs, St. Vincent, Phoenix or Kid Cudi (I don’t listen to radio) but they are getting really good buzz from people’s who”s taste I respect so I will have to check them out and may need to revise my lists.

    Any thoughts?
