We warned you last month that the youngest of the Jonii (excepting, of course, nine-year-old “bonus Jonas” Frankie—still unsigned!) was going solo. Now, post-Grammy-nominations-broadcast bow, 17-year-old Nick has released the official video for “Who I Am,” the first single from the debut album from his new side project Nick Jonas and the Administration, due February 2.
Watch the clip below; its cancer survivors, military moms, and gothy honor students are a do-good lesson in defying stereotypes—and incidentally, sort of an altruistic take on INXS’s my-cue-cards-tell-the-tale “Mediate” video circa 1987:

He sounds like a youngish Bruce…the song is OK, not my kind of music. He’s cute. But honestly, do we need another guitar strumming singer in the mode of John Mayer-David Cook-Kris Allen-Daughtry?
You know, I had almost completely forgotten about the Jonas Brothers. The star power has greatly dwindled, and I just don’t feel like any of them have the talent to cross over from their tween fan base into the mainstream. Most of the little girls who love them have traded up for their new vapid obsession: Twilight. If it means anything I’d choose them over Twilight any day.
Honestly, while this song seems a little offbase from Nick and his brothers music, I am proud of him. Nick isn’t trying to slip into the mainstream music. He’s playing music he enjoys, and that is what is important. Just listen to his new album. I actually believe his new album is more him than anything else he has produced.
