Acclaimed rapper Lil Wayne has premiered the video for “On Fire,” the second single from his upcoming, long-delayed (it was originally supposed to come out last April) album Rebirth, which finds Mr. Carter dabbling in the kitschy world of ’80s rock.
“On Fire” is heavily sampled (lifting both the synth and guitar riff) from an Amy Holland song (any one remember her? Bueller? Bueller?) from 1983 called “She’s on Fire.” Hip-hop fans may recall the use of that charmingly dated synth-pop tune in Brian De Palma’s Scarface, or if you played Grand Theft Auto III and tuned in to Flashback 95.6, this was one of the songs playing while you mowed down pedestrians.
Lil Wayne does his best to make the tune his own, playing lead guitar and throwing in a credible hip-hop beat, and while he hardly reinvents the song, he does update it for the modern club scene. The video involves Weezy rocking out in an old-fashioned mansion while a woman seduces him clad in black feathery angel wings, looking like a Victoria’s Secret model from the Dark Lord.
Appropriately enough for a song called “On Fire,” the winged-model writhes around in front of explosions and gives off sparks when petted. Lil Wayne informs us this dark angel is, “Hot as hell, let’s call her Helen/Fireman to her rescue like Nine Eleven,” which would probably be offensive if it made more sense.
What do you think? Should Tha Carter stick to the rap game lest he get burned, or does this retro-styled jam make him the prom queen of the synth-hop ball?

I think he needs to just quit singing (though I know that won’t happen since there are people out there who buy his drivel). He just seriously isn’t talented. At all.
9-11 = 911, which is the number you’d dial if you needed a fireman. Stupid.
The reference is probably to the show “Rescue 911″ (William Shatner).
You see, the problem is Lil Wayne is garbage.
lil wayne is terrible, a poseur, and an jerk.
there’s nothing offensive about that. if its 9/11 or 911. neither is offensive. he’s saying fireman to the rescue. thats what they do. also, lil wayne has called himself “fireman” for quite a while. you sensitive nutjobs are out of your damn minds.
I never liked Lil Wayne, and so I watched this video to understand why the hell is he so popular with critics as well as fans. I still haven’t figured it out. He sucks. In every aspect. Can’t rap, can’t sing, and writes horrible songs. He is one of the reasons why rap music is dead. He’s also an ugly midget, I can’t understand how he got 2 women pregnant in 1 year.
okay im going to leave a level headed comment since i am a fan of all music and did grow up in this generation….I like lil wayne up intil the carter 3 which was eh at the best…the carter 2 was amazing as far as flow an lyrics go. We do have to give the man credit for trying something new musically. To many people bash artists for staying the same, which he obviously is trying to switch it up. With that being said as a music fan in general it has been a fail. The cd sounds like a hot mess and it is not good. go back to rapping or try to at least “sing” the rock song. he is trying to rap over rock beats and its just not working. he does have a great gravely rock voice and im sure if he truly did try to belt out a rock song he could. Again he needs to stop trying to rap over rock songs, its just not working. Maybe a song where he sings the rock music can be different. But lets at least give the man credit for trying something different as I’m sure many of all your favorite artists have tried anything differently possibly failed at before and went back to their old schtick.
what is the name of the video model? she is beautiful
