Grammys 2010: What are your predictions?

Grammy weekend! We’re only hours away, dear readers, from the music-industry’s premier awards-show rodeo.

We know who’s heading in with the most nominations—10 for Beyonce; eight for Taylor Swift; five for La Señora Gaga—and our own Simon Vozick-Levinson has kindly handicapped the evening with this Who Will Win/Who Should Win gallery. (You’re welcome! Tell your bookie we say hello.)

The rest, as wildly unexpected wins (Herbie Hancock’s 2008 Album of the Year upset; Springfield over Springsteen, etc.) have proven year after year, is almost entirely left in the hands of fate.

So we turn the oddsmaking to you, Music Mixers. For a full list, click here; for just the top categories (i.e. no Best Regional Mexican) read after the jump; then place your bets. Grammy Nominations 2010

Okay call me crazy, but why the heck was Kelly Clarkson only on this list 1 time?!!! She released her best album to date this past year and it had some incredible songs… It’s like jeez, just give credit where credit is due already!

    • jacks

      mike,…well said my friend :)

    • shawna

you damn rightaouy kelly, andayler swift is a sexy talented woman also

    • mark

All of those Taylor Swift and BEPs nominations are just rubbish. Kanye was robbed. Kelly was robbed. Arctic Monkeys were robbed. MGMT deserves best new artist and duo/group pop performance for KIDS!! BEPs robbed it from Death Cab years ago when My Humps won over the gorgeous and sad I will follow you into the dark

maybe a little too much love to Kings of Leon… maybe one of them, other than that pretty solid predictions.

      • Lindsay

There can NEVER be too much Kings of Leon! hahah but seriously, Taylor Swift may be a good entertainer but she still needs more vocal training… All these awards are going to go to her head and she still has a long way to go before she will reach her potential- Plus, Use Somebody definitely appealed to a larger demo and deserves to win.

      • woot

I didn’t say it wasn’t a good song, but i dont know if it will win 2 of the biggest awards. thats all.

    • change

      Agreed.

    • psychoanalyzer

let’s be honest here – Beyonce will win at least one damn Grammy!

  • ks

    Perl Jam and AC/DC

  • Marianne

Song of the Year has to go to Beyonce. Single Ladies has become such a phenomenon…I mean SNL spoofed it (hello justin), Joe Jonas did the dance, Glee has done it on the show…not too mention all the regular people who have uploaded videos of themselves doing it. Kanye may be an a-hole but he sure was right.

I’m sure Taylor Swift will get Album of the year though. Because she has had quite the big year. Plus it would be so cool if “I’m on a Boat” won. lol. It would be cool if Kings of Leon won an award and if Phoenix won an award too…But I don’t really have any predictions.

album of the year, i think, is between dave matthews and taylor swift. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT LET BEYONCE WIN! SHES SOOOOOOOOOOOO OVERRATED

    • kat

the grammys always end up pissing me off, so i’m sure beyonce or teenybobber swift will win

      • JIG

TS is a pretty good performer however….2/3 songs she sang off key.
This was obvious. How bout that guy from Mentalist? Never knew he was from England….

  • Allthesinglegagas

    Song of the Year:
    Between Single Ladies/Poker Face

    Record of the Year:
Taylor Swift “You Belong With Me”

    Album of the Year:
    Beyonce…Sasha Fierce or Taylor Swift…Fearless

LAdy Gaga will definitly take best dance recording and best dance album.

Hopefully Kings of Leon deserves something also.

    BLACK EYED PEAS ARE HORRIBLE!

  • Beau

I just hope this doesn’t become “the Taylor Swift Show” again. Don’t know if I can stand to listen to one more of her off key performances.LOL!

    • Codi

The girl CANNOT sing live. Sounds like my cat, Homer. She HAS to have the autotune.

      • Whatever

I’ve never heard her use autotune once.

      • duffy

have you ever seen her live outside of tv? she sounds fine. alot of bands/singers sound crap on tv, the sound gets distorted.

      • psychoanalyzer

People have been performing on TV for over 70 years! And what about the people who sound amazing through the TV? Sound distortions? I like Taylor, but she needs to work on her live performances. Can’t blame the TV on this one.

    • Racine

Don’t keep giving Taylor Swift all of these awards because of what happened at the VMAs! She’s aight but damn!

      • duffy

its hardly because of the vmas. she was selling out stadium tours and fearless debuted at number one in november 2008…a whole year BEFORE the vma incident. did it get her more press? sure. but the bottom line is she is talented, works hard, and really nice. so its paying off for her.

      • mark

agreed! She should be thanking her stars for Kanye’s ego. It’s too bad that her crap is replacing his sublime 808 and Heartbreak

  • JR

PHOENIX-WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX- best album ever!!!

    • Stephanie

Agree! WAF is amazing…although if It’s Blitz! got the Best Alternative Album award I’d be happy as well. But anything besides those two would be a robbery IMHO.

  • Amber

I really don’t care who wins. Kelly Clarkson was robbed of nominations.

    • jacks

i agree kelly clarkson never gets enough attention! not that its the most inportant thing rite now but DAMN kelly has some of THE best VOCALS in the entire business and seriously how can some ppl not love kelly and her amazing music? sick of taylor swift and kanye. they dont have near as much talent or charisma. screw the awards shows, they hand out awards just for showing up. its a joke. i probly sound like a bitter 40 year old but im not,im 18 and i know great music when i hear it..who has sold over 20 million RECORDS WORLDWIE..hardly anyone has sold that in any of those catigories..worldwide superstar u cant deny this! one of the best live performers, best vocals, she treats her fans with more respect than most “performers”. rock on kelly! keep doing your thing girl :) she deserves wayyy more respect. its ridiculous. so yeahhhh
      kc fan in missouri~

      • psychoanalyzer

Kelly is amazing. I think she’s kind of in the Pink category, though — Pink is great but is always underrated. Ad I don’t think it’s because people don’t find Kelly appealing (the record sales don’t lie). They just find other artists MORE appealing. I also think Kelly’s album was a little too overproduced. Once she pulls it in and makes it tight, she’ll be fine. Until then, she’s just be a big voice who can sing pop but wants to sing rock, but settles on pop/rock, and people just can’t figure it out. They’d rather be fed straight up craziness ala Lady Gaga, straight up sex appeal ala Beyonce, or straight up sweetness, Taylor Swift.

  • Dave

Well this is obviously not going to be a “should win” list, since half of the people who should win are not even nominated, and some of the nominees are utter garbage. Anyway…
