Yay for B and crew! Definitely deserving, as it was one of the biggest songs last year.
Is that you, Kanye?
That songs sucks.
The performances by Pink and Lady Gaga were amazing! Especially Pink. She just keeps getting more and more amazing. I just love how she has managed to recreate herself yet again and get better with age and experience.
In addition to Pink and GaGa Green Day’s performance was really good, other than those not so much…
Your comments were amazing. I’m amazed at your amazement.
I’m amazed that you were amazed at her amazement. That’s just amazing!
Too bad we’ve seen it before. Pink recreates herself once every year. She needed to find something that would wow the crowd a different way as opposed to reusing the circus gag
I suppose you’d rather listen to Taylor Swift’s performance again…
The Dave Matthews Band’s performance was amazing. I’m still bummed that they didn’t win for Best Album instead of dippy Taylor Swift. Obviously the Grammys have NO taste.
I’m with you that the Grammys have no taste. What do you expect from an academy that also gave the Grammy to Nora Jones Album of the Year instead of Bruce Springsteen (for The Rising)? Now let me ask you this–where is Nora Jones today? Exactly. Another example that the Grammy’s have no taste.
Um, Dave Matthews was on the bottom of the list for this one. Lady Gaga was INARGUABLY the one who should have won without a doubt or a second thought, Swift second, Beyonce third, BEP fourth and DMB a distant fifth.
Gaga was indeed amazing…however, if you’ve seen any of P!nk’s recent live performances, you’ve seen her do this already, so it was nothing new. Except the water. And the fact that she decided to lip-sync, which was very disappointing as she generally never does that.
Did a crappy country band really just beat MGMT, The Ting Tings and Silversun Pickups for best new artist!??!?!?? Just lost all credibility…
That “crappy country band” is amazing….Did it ever cross your mind that MGMT, the ting tings, sliversun pickups sucked???? I guess not….
No, he is right. Zac Brown Band sucks.
No b/c most ppl that like good music would agree with me.
No Zac Brown Band DOES NOT SUCK. People do have different taste, just because you might not like country, well that is your right. But to say a band sucks because one you like didn’t win, now that is idiotic and makes you a moron.
Sydney its not personal you don’t have to call ppl names.
W – I agree with you.
@w – You said that anyone who disagrees with you has bad musical taste. How’s that any different?
silversun pickups should have won
Come on people… Taste is like ass, everyone has their own.
Silversun Pickups aren’t even new though…and I like the Zac Brown Band
Question? How do the Grammy’s classify a “New Artist”? The Ting Ting’s performed live on Dick Clark’s New Years Bash in Times Square about 2 maybe 3 years ago. They are NOTHING new and have ALWAYS been amazing!
MGMT are not new, either. This is what Wikipedia says the guidelines are: “For a new artist who releases, during the Eligibility Year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist”. I feel that is a very vague definition. Apparently it means the year that they become popular with the mainstream, which I think is kinda lame.
silversun pickups suck? go shoot yourself buddy. really.
I’m not a fan of Zac Brown Band by any means. They are not terrible however, The Ting Tings and Sliversun Pickups are more my speed. IMO the Ting Tings deserved to win.
yes, sucks doesn’t it.
Yeah W how is THAT any different? Calling someone a name is calling someone a name, rather nice or not. Not any different.
Sydney you need to chill out. Just b/c very few ppl think the zac brown band was deserving of the award doesn’t mean you have to get so defensive
The Zac Brown Band??? The Grammys are a joke.
I know right? MGMT lost… lord help us…. well that’s what you get when you throw away Grammys at Taylor Swift and her kind… country???? seriously?
“and her kind…” Really? Wow, not a country fan I assume. Seriously.
zac brown band is amazing they deserved it. i think the right people have won so far. i was kinda dissapointed that t-swift didnt get song of the year. but she definatly deserved the country album. pinks performance was stunning. heres hoping that beyonce doesnt win album of the year!!!!!!!!!
At least, Beyonce can sing. Your sweet little Taylor Swift can’t carry a tune in a cardboard box
Sorry but I happen to agree with Wake here. I love Taylor Swift but if you have ever seen her sing live (I have) she cannot sing. Maybe she should stick to the writing, she is fantastic at that.
Taylor Swift can’t sing very well. She also has no stage presence. It was worth seeing Stevie Nicks even though you had listen to her.
Yes, but Beyonce is annoying as hell.
Mulitply how annoying you think Beyonce is by 10 and that is how annoying Taylor Swift is. “This is the moment we will be talking about when we are 80″ Spare me!
Isn’t “Song of the Year” supposed to be an award for the *songwriter*??? I laughed when Single Ladies was nominated for the award, I’m laughing even harder now. That song is hardly an accomplishment for songwriting (lyrics could have been written by any angry 20-something year old). I liked the song and all, but NOT for a songwriting award!
“if you like it then you should have put a ring on it” is yes, quite definitely not much of an accomplishment in writing…
I agree… I am baffled by that award. Also for r&b vocals… it is so not rhythm and blues.
I agree, the lyrics are someones personal thoughts that are strung together into a song. “single ladies” is a good tune to listen too but to say it is the best lyrics is a joke. what about P!NK and I hate to say Taylor Swift. I don’t like country music but i can appreciate good writting. and as for P!nk, she is fantastic… as a song writer, singer and performer! can’t believe she didn’t win anything
australia loves u p!nk
I agree, her lyrics are always deeply personal and strong. She deserves to be recognized for this last album. Just beautiful.
The other nominees weren’t exactly examples of genius songwriting either…
Well, Single ladies is clever…its a sort of has hip hop hints and cultural connotations that you may not understand. Taylor swift’s lyrics are alright, but i think they are simple. Maybe a 12 year old could have written them. I think Taylor Swift hardly sings country music…and as for beyonce…r&b has changed alot…so you cant really define it…especially if we are okay with taylor swift being country, she has neither the vocals nor the music to say so, and that was demonstrated today by her terrible performance. Everyone was good EXCEPT for her. The song of the year would be named, best lyrics if it was meant only for song writers. It really has nothing to do with the lyrics because if u write terrible lyrics and have a good singer and a bad singer perform them, it will be totally different. Thats why its song of the year and the songWRITER gets acknowledged. Pinks performance was awesome, Zac Brown Band was unknown to many until tonight, but had a better performance than taylor. All you people talking bout zac brown band, and that black eyed peas cant sing, where do u guys like in utah? or minnesota? lmfao…I mean you cant say anything unless you can speak for all the artists represented, and everything that encompasses their music. Fergie’s voice is awesome, but she is not a good live singer when shes dancing around…beyonce was rolling around and swing her head like the dutty wine and she still blew her song ANDDDD Alanis Morsette’s song, which by the way was a wonderful rendition and tribute to the rock artist! I think the only disappointment was Taylor Swift. I did not like what Kanye West did to her…but he was right…she is terrible and I don’t like the way she gets so hyped up at all. I mean best album of the year? That’s a bit ridiculous. How can u lose best female and record of the year AND song of the year but then win Album of the year…that makes no sense and everyone knows it.
Jealousy is ALL over the place here tsk tsk tsk.
Since the Zac Brown Band was the only nominee anybody ever heard of, I suppose it was a good choice – but seriously, maybe some years they could skip the “Best New Artist” award.
Most of ppl that like good music know of all the other nominees for best new artist. And they are actually good!
BUT WHERE IS KID CUDI?!?!
I think Zac Brown Band are the least known of the nominees. Keri Hilson had a giant radio smash this year, you didn’t notice?
You’ve never heard of MGMT?! Have you been living under a rock?
Dude. I KNOW who they are and have worked in the music biz, but keep in mind not everyone knows every artist out there. There are bands even I haven’t heard of or heard.
If you don’t listen to indie/alt rock you aren’t going to know who they are, they may have had a couple hit singles in that circle but anyone outside of it won’t have a clue. It’s not lik they topped billboard charts.
You sound like a pretentious nit.
Zac Brown Band was actually the only nominee I hadn’t heard of…
I’m agree with the brand new artist winner I don’t understand why mgmt didn’t won?
Kelly Clarkson didn’t win best vocal pop album. guess who did? BEP. VOCAL album. last I checked, they couldn’t sing to save their lives.
i am wondering why she isn’t performing tonight. is she still on clive davis’ persona non grata list???
Couldn’t agree with you more. The award should have went to a computer.
lmao!!!!
so true. they’re awful.
Yeah Kings of Leon!!!!!!!!
King of Leons rule!!!!!!!
Sorry should of been Kings Of Leon. They still rule!!!! Happy Green Day won too!!! And Zac Brown Band, who deserved it!!!!
Black Eyed Peas should have won Record of the Year.
I totally agree! Black Eyed Peas deserved to win Record and Song of the Year!!
No.
So absolutely NOT…
the grammy judges are high why in the blue hell they give the zac brown band a grammy they are stoned.
Oh shut up you country haters. The Zac Brown Band is a great band. They deserved to win, just go chomp on your sour grapes, ok?
Smoking something strong apparently looking at some of the winners tonight.
Green Day is a good choice for Best Rock Album as always but since Dave Mathews Band was the only nominee also up for Album of the Year – it would have made more logistical sense if they had won.
But God forbid, the Grammys ever make sense!
MAXWELL is the best!
Zac Brown band sounds like another Confederate Railroad. I like them both.
