I remember clear as if it were just yesterday standing in Bruce Ravid’s Capitol Records office with my girlfriend Sherry and my band Archer, from Hawaii and Bruce played the then unknown Knack song Sharona to us. It was like a revelation in sound. Fresh, unprecedented and incomprehensibly catchy! LOVED it and went on to play power pop from that day on. Thanks Doug for having passed this way and made the world just that little bit brighter and exciting.

Saw them at a small club in Los Angeles in 1979 and they ROCKED!

I was 17 playing in my second band when My Sharona came out. We immediately added it and Good Girls Don’t to the set list. Thirty years and over thirty bands latter I still wanted to add it to the set list of a through back cover band I was in. The leader of the band didn’t want to do it. Not because it was a bad song. He just couldn’t get the arrangement down. It’s harder to play right than you think. I spent a whole afternoon learning the solo’s note for note. Some you can add lib and it works. But that solo is perfect. To play it any other way doesn’t work.

Thanks to all of The Knack, and sleep good Doug.

This song just had wild magic.

Even for a dad with middle schoolage girls and friends in the 90′s.

It was impossible NOT to break out dancing. Just like the Sound Bites clip.
    Thanks for the clip, Annie

Doug and the KNACK totally reshaped the music scene back in the late 70′s . In fact , their style inspired a number of the songs written by myself and the other guys of the band I was playing with at the time. Thank you Doug for the inspiration and ,again , you will be missed. Steven Ryan
