I don’t think it’s an untouchable. Some covers/remakes I enjoy far more than the original. I’m always open to new interpretations.
That being said.
THIS WAS THE MOST GOD AWFUL REMAKE I HAVE EVER HEARD.
I wanted to like it. But holy sh!t. For real? This is the best they could come up with?
“Let’s start to make the world a better place, let’s start giving”, so said MJ 25 years ago. I wonder if this song would need a remake if it were heeded the first time.
i am 28 years old and the old version i absolutely loved it. the new version i liked it also. Corissa is so right. the new is for everyone but it will really attract the younger generation. yes maybe at first it was a little weird when wycoff sang his part but that’s is his style.some didn’t like when he start singing in a different language because the didn’t understand it. very immature of you to judge someone because u don’t understand. the song doesn’t have to be just for Hatti. their. listen to the song and stop being so negative! i listened to the song and i cried then put it on my voice mail. my 6 year and 4 year old asked me what the song is about and. if you have kids are you going to tell them the song is garbage and not listen to it. are you going to get the old record out have the kids listen to it and then tell them what the song is about. why don’t you just tell them when they ask u the first time. let them know that we are all gods children. this is not a perfect place and that it is up to us to change the way people look at the world, and when people is down don’t kick them to keep them down grab their hand and help them up. all it take is for you and i to give a little to make are world a better place our environment and the air cleaner and healthier for the next generation after u and so on. maybe wycoff over did it a little but the song is not bad. and for the person that said Jammie needs to stick to acting must not know that jammie started out sing. they just did not take him serious until after he did the ray Charles movie just like Eddie Murphy. and Jammie Foxx real name is not do your home work kids
just thought i let you know that.
Eric bishop is his real name
The original “We are the world” was sang for the Hungry Africa relief in the 80’s. I totally agree with Jay –Z that some songs are “untouchable”. There has been various disaster before the Haiti Earthquake that did not get this much publicity by the entertainment industry. However a whole new song for this generation would have been great. I know artist can do better critical thinking and be more creative, if we all come together as one for real and not during tragic events for future revenue .
This remake will be remembered as epic. An epic failure that is.
You know some people would take it the wrong way, because more people are waking up and opening their eyes. You and your music are both influenced by the darkness right now. And “We are the World” is about saving humanity, not ruling over it and trying to bring souls down with you.
I was sad and disheartened to learn this year about you giving up the light for money and power. I used to love you. I couldn’t believe it. Instead of being angry, I will pray for you to humble yourself to the most High. Money and power in this world is not worth what’s coming after death. It’s eternity. Seriously consider that.
For starters, If Michael Jackson were still alive now, he would be doing his last of his shows. I think he would’ve postponed some dates to attend the We Are the World remake session and extended some of the shows into April.
I think that the more experianced recording artists should’ve sung the solo verses. Such as…
* Alicia Keys
* Beyonce
* Justin Timberlake
* John Legend
* Earth, Wind and Fire
* R-Kelly
* Faith Evens
* Mariah Carey
* Christina Aguilera
Just to name a few of the artists I think should’ve been included in the remake. Justin Bieber and Autotune sucked
ITA
I actually really like the song, but I fail to understand why a)the 6 year old who looks like a girl was given LIONEL RICHIE’S lines, b)why Miley effing Cyrus is in there, and c)why Nicole Scherzwhatsherface is in there when everyone knows she can’t really sing.
And I get that they want people of all ages and genres to listen to it but I spotted like 4 country stars and like 30 R&B/rap/hip-hop stars. Will.I.Am-yes. LL Cool J-yes. Kanye-don’t like him but yes. The rest can go away.
I also feel sorry for Fergie – she had to sing right after Celine Dion, and anybody but Whitney Houston would sound like crap after her.
Other than that though, I actually enjoy this song.
I enjoy the new version but it will NEVER EVER be compared with the original. Am in agreement that it suits the present generation though. Thumbs up Jay-z, they should have come up with a new song for Haiti, and let we are the world remain untouchable. much as it was created for africa, africa isnt mentioned in the original song. Eventually the new version will burry the original one….my greatest worry.
