I’m just going to put this out there, and admittedly it is only my personal opinion: Playing tennis with Vampire Weekend looks about a zillion times more fun than going bowling with Justin Bieber. Take a gander at Vampire Weekend’s new “Giving Up the Gun” video below and you might see what I mean.
The clip centers on a tennis match in which a young woman faces off against, in turn, Joe Jonas; Jake Gyllenhaal, who swigs from a flask and rips off his pants; Lil Jon, who sports a Panama hat and speaks in subtitled French; and several other folks who are not famous. The match is judged by the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, who is dressed like a character from The Matrix and can apparently teleport. By the end of the revels, actual fireballs are being volleyed across the net.
This is about the craziest celebrity line-up I’ve seen in a music video since Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” — which, as Pitchfork notes, also co-starred Jake Gyllenhaal. That guy picks his roles well. Watch “Giving Up the Gun” below and let us know what you think.

too fun… (forgive me), but I’ll have to check these guys out now.
love the song, love the band, love the guests
This is why one should never drink pimp juice before a tennis match.
And are those the Daft Punk robots?
That’s what I was wondering too!
Agreed… I have been fans of them for years and I think I just lost a little bit of respect for them. At least the music is still good.
This is a terrible video. I’m a huge fan of Vampire Weekend but this is virtually unwatchable. The song is not enhanced in anyway, it’s just a lame trying to be funny video. Random cameos of celebrities is not funny, and the use of slow motion is horrible and totally overdone. What a disappointing video…
Wow, who got your skinny jeans in a bunch?
I, for one, think this video is refreshing and fun.
Like, c’mon. It’s adorable. Mark’s purple skinnies are def in a bunch.
joe jonas is soooooooo HOT
As a vampire weekend fan, this video kind of sucks, but you can’t hate on RZA or Lil’ Jon cameos. As someone who has taught tennis before, she really needs to lower her grip, bend her knees a bit more, and keep her head down and she will continue to win various futuristic tennis tourneys against samurai, evil twins, daft punk, and Jake Gyllenhall followed up by pouring milk on herself. What drugs were they on?? I want some.
as a vampire weekend fan i say this is a great video.
Loved it. Was happy that the Malloys& Vampire Weekend included Joe, the Best Jonas.
Seriously, this video is great! I liked everything about it, it’s random, has amazing people in it, and the guys look amazing! Wow, props to Vampire Weekend. I have to admit though, I liked this video better than I liked “Cousins” the set up of the video, it’s too good. Ha, Joe Jonas, what a silly guy, he looks extremely attractive. Oh by the way, VAMPIRE WEEKEND > JUSTIN BIEBER . Anyone else agree?
Well Joe Jonas sure looks hot.
Holy crap! It looked like one of the mystery woman’s tennis opponents was THE STIG!
agreed! it was hilarious! joe was effing hot, and jake too. no one wants to watch that baby bieber crap….
It was funny, I enjoyed Jake Gyllenhaal’s bit.
I think that the video part of the song represents the struggles we go through as human beings…Joe being, idk selfishness or rudeness? Jake being addictions, and the last one, possibly, thinking that we are greater than we really are? Notice that the main girl is wearing red and the last girl (herself) is wearing white.
Did anyone else get that from this?
I also just love the song. First time I’ve ever heard this band before. Great sound.
All right. OK. Didn’t recognize no Jonas in there because that stuff is for kids. Donnie Darko should know better than to drink before a tennis match.
