Kanye West weathers the 'Coldest Winter': Watch his chilly new video here

Is Kanye West about to release a new album? Maybe! In the meantime, though, he’s tiding fans over with a video for “Coldest Winter,” from Nov. 2008’s 808s & Heartbreak.

West does not appear in the clip. Instead, there are a lot of shots of a scantily clad woman running through a dark forest while being pursued by creepy hooded figures. (As Miss Info points out, the bad guys look exactly like the dementors who guard Azkaban Prison.) Frankly, I found the video a little underwhelming. 808s has been flogged more than enough in the year-plus since its release. Would it be so much to ask for some new music?

Watch Kanye West’s “Coldest Winter” video below. Then let us know whether you’re wowed — or if you’re feeling impatient like me.

You would think this is Kanye’s slow reintroduction back into the pop culture. It’s about time.

  • Cole

808s and Heartbreak was pretty great i thought. this song is pretty personal for Kanye so thats probably why hes not in the video

  • Trevor

Decent song, I enjoyed it, but WTF was with the video?

  • Juice

    Wow .. Great cinematography !!!:-)

    But the auto-tune again :-(

  • so n so

wow, that’s a weak “song”. the synth and drum loops sound like from a high school kid’s laptop and so does the lyric. that guy can’t write.

  • baby regz

so n so doesnt know music.
kanye is the master of music.
he has the potential to be the
best and he will be. GOOD Music
is gonna blow the charts and Young Money has nothin on them. The music video was genius jus like all his other ones. He’s a pure genius. F all haters.

if this “song” is any indication, Kanye’s the master of drum machines, synth loops and kindergarten lyrics. there’s nothing musical about this “song” at all. all it has to recommend it is an expensive video which is irrelevant to music. these days the bar for “genius” is very low. listen to Sketches of Spain, A Love Supreme or Electric Ladyland. makes Kanye sound like the over-rated, loud-mouthed wank that he is.

“808s and Heartbreaks” was robbed of Album Of The Year at the Grammys.

    • henri

Definitely. It could’ve at least got a nomination? I mean, was The END really better than 808s??? wtf.

So n So is obviously one of the people who hates Kanye because of his stunts but look at me. I don’t like La Roux as a person but I can’t deny how good her music is and the same goes for 50 Cent.

  • so n so

I don’t hate Kanye. this “song” is no more than machines and a trite lyric. as a secondary issue, the amateurish creativity of the “song” does make his constant bragging seem ridiculous. but my main point was how bad the “song” was.

I’m surprised by the tone of this article: I think it should be celebrated that `Ye’s still making art out of the quality work he did on this album. Demanding new music a year after it dropped? Whatever happened to patience and respect for the creative process that takes time? I don’t know if they mythic ‘few year wait’ between albums ever existed, but it should. Perhaps we wouldn’t get half the crap we did today if people waited, or we’d at least appreciate it more (looking at you–and still loving you–Beyonce).

Maybe he’s finishing out the campaign for his 2008 album and decided on Coldest Winter, one of the darker numbers on the album.
