Aerosmith: Steven Tyler successfully 'auditions' to become lead singer, band announce European tour dates

aerosmithImage Credit: Scott D. Smith/Retna LtdLess than a month ago things were looking grim in the Aerosmith camp, with Steven Tyler’s attorney demanding the rest of the band desist from auditioning a new lead singer—and not ruling out the possibility of a legal action if they didn’t.

Well, die hard Aerosmith fans can rest easy. Or as easy as anyone can rest while cranking Toys in the Attic up to 11 on the ol’ stereo. The ‘Smith have announced Tyler is officially still the band’s vocalist via a puckish video clip on their website in which the singer declares, “I just auditioned and I got the gig.” The band have also released details of a European summer tour.

Are you surprised by the news? Excited? Bored? And which is more ridiculous: the recent Aerosmith shenanigans or the hat Tyler is wearing in the clip? Let us know!

thank god, aerosmith without steven tyler is not aerosmith.

    • Nshi

I find Aerosmith to be EXTREMELY offensive. Please delete this entire post!!

      • Nshi

        Sorry meant *ophensive*.

    • Feiss

I want to tell the EW community that people posting under the “Nshi” name are going way too far. I regret every having posted to these boards for what these imposters have been saying. I really am sorry that I started something so stupid.

  • Momo

Yes, very happy to hear. His voice is almost too distinctive to replace.

  • JA

Stunts to keep themselves in the headlines. Like they’d REALLY replace Steven Tyler.

  • Anna

They only intended to replace him temporarily while he took time off. I think this whole thing has really been about Steven’s drug addiction. The band clearly suspected he was using again and was angry about it. He was clean for a couple of decades and now he’s been in rehab twice in the last couple of years.

  • darrin

good news indeed! there is no replacing steven tyler period. so i think they will work out their kinks and get back in fine form during this euro tour. get back in the studio and finish the album that they had started. release the album and do a massive tour to support it all next year! sounds good to me :)

  • darrin

oh and the hat is all tyler c’mon

  • Joe C

Sorry, I officially wrote Aerosmith off as dead and gone since they recorded ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.’ from the equally horrible Armageddon(sic?) movie. Walk THAT way….

    • garry

Joe, I agree with you regarding the Armageddon thing. However, I think it was smart for Aerosmith to do that–I went to their summer tour that year and the place was packed with us “old folks” and this new crop of fans who were there primarily for “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” I think the band managed to link the past with the present thanks to Armageddon. They haven’t “sold out” since then either. Best rock band ever.

  • Henry

I’m sorry, but I was under the impression Steven Tyler WAS Aerosmith.

    • Holly

I agree!! The other guys are just his back up band.

  • Vel

    zzzzzzzzz….snore….

  • Rach

So very, very over old rockers.

    • Nshi

Please delete your ageist comment. Its absolutely ophensive!

  • Mike

I’m excited hopefully this reinvigorates the band and they do a US tour (screw Europe) and get the long awaited album finished and in my CD player!!!

  • Scott

Boring, who cares, Aerosmith hasn’t been good in years.

    • darrin

scott i plead with you to go out and buy “Honkin’ On Bobo” from 2004 and reconsider this statement please

  • Steve

Thank God–I love ‘em all but Aerosmith is really not aerosmith without Tyler. They cannot survive another break up–the fans will not rally behind a new Aerosmith band. Gotta respect the classics.

  • sherry

Love Aerosmith always have always will..they will probably play some Aerosmith at my funeral…And yeah for them being old Rockers….so am I!!! Lots better than the crap we hear now..

  • Dean

Love that band.Glad he is staying.Without him ,there is no Aerosmith. His voice is the stamp.
