American Idol is going back to its roots for its season 9 exit song. A 19 Entertainment spokesperson confirms that “Leave Right Now,” by Will Young (the winner of season one of AI‘s British predecessor Pop Idol), will help usher out booted contestants beginning with tonight’s initial semifinal results show all the way through the end of May. Thematically speaking, it’s probably the harshest and most succinctly titled adieu, so brace yourself for the sight of sobbing singers as Mr. Young croons the words “I think I better leave right now/ I’m feeling weaker and weaker/ Somebody better show me out/ Before I fall any deeper/ I think I better leave right now.” Then again, at least it’s not Jojo’s “Leave (Get Out).”

It’s better than, “You’re such a failure” or “Yo Mama hates you”
This song is harsh. Don’t like the guy- Will Young. The refrain, I guess is okay, which is what they’ll play probably.
But why can’t we have an american singer exit song for “American Idol”.
Its because Simon use to Judge Pop Idol.. I like the song. And it will bring me great pleasure to see Tim Urban cry to it when he gets voted off.. Tim sucks
Its a bit harsh but after suffering through AI the past two nights I’m surprisingly okay with harsh. I would have preferred Kris Allen’s “Let It Rain”.

Actually after last night I’d be fine if they had no exit song at all and just dropped the singer through a trap door, never to be seen again.

I think Kris done a great job on his song LET IT BE. He is a great performer and he shows us what a idol is suppose to be.
I love this song. I bought it. And I think that Will has a great sense of humor. I saw him sing this song live and he sounded great. And so funny talking to the people on the show.
He won Pop Idol? Wow… Our group doesn’t look so bad anymore!
You have no idea – he was brilliant, and still is.

He won through charisma, charm and an ability to build a song the way it needs and to be wonderful while doing it. Not a single bum note throughout the run of the series. Nearly 10 years on and the man is still following his own easy listening/jazz/blues quirky as all hell route. His music may not be to your style but the talent behind it is undeniable which is why he’s won so many awards and a lasting career.
It probably won’t be the boot song for the top 12, they usually have a different one for that part of the competition.
I hope you are right. This song is awful. Maybe Kara should pen the exit song in lieu of the coronation song. Just a thought…
I actually was hoping that Kelly Clarkson’s “Save You” would be the exit song. It’s great, and I think the chorus would be fitting.

I was hoping for Kris Allen’s ‘Let It Rain’. It would have been perfect, and inspiring. Why kick the losers when they are down?
Ugh, I know that feeling. Whenever I show up to an art exhibition everything just goes to hell in a handbasket!!! lol, this guy can’t act and I was physically cringing at the beginning of the video but by the end I was just laughing hysterically.

I’m not sure if I like; sounds more like a stalker obsession song. I think there must be a more suitable song then this, it is kinda of depressing. Maybe I will feel differently after It plays a few times, but I don’t think so.

What a horrible choice! So insulting to the contestants. Why not choose one of Kris Allen’s songs? This vocal is very annoying.

If we have to get stuck with this song, they should at least have an American Idol sing it. They should promote AMERICAN IDOL NOT Pop Idol.
You’d never of had American Idol- if their weren’t a Pop idol!
Pop idol isn’t even on TV anymore! We have X-factor- which is again being stolen from us and going to Fox with Simon on panel and producing.
Perhaps America should get some original programming- or just easily enough steel British formats.
