I saw Adam in concert a few weeks ago in Indio and he was A-MAZ-ing live. I do however love these unplugged versions as well. I wish VH1 would release a “unplugged” CD, but they apparently do not have brains there (they didn’t even show this on their channel) so I’ll be hunting for the downloads to hit the internet and will make my own CD. Yay Adam!!!
even better they should release a DVD of this performance. I would be the first one in line for that.
I would really like to have a CD or DVD of these as well. At least you can watch all 8 videos on VH1 Unplugged anytime you want.
djm: VH1 is going to air Adam Unplugged on April 9. It was just announced yesterday, I believe.
I agree about the Adam Unplugged CD, though he’d need more than five or six songs; wish VH1 had recorded more!
Also, people should check out this acoustic version of Adam singing “Whole Lotta Love” at his Fantasy Springs concert in Feb.:
I read on Zap2it blog that VH1 will be airing ADAM’s UNplugged videos on April 9th @ 11 PM EST. Don’t know if it’s definite but I’ll be watching for sure.
Please go to youtube and check out his Brigadoon vocals. Tell me when you’ve ever heard anything better!
I agree with you, sandy. I have never heard a live performance as good as Adam’s Brigadoon. It’s a shame that the haters judge him on one or two songs where they perceive that he screams. He is singing musical notes but people who don’t have a music background don’t know this. The DDD Music Forums that have real musicians rank Adam as the #2 most technical rock vocalist in the world. There are so many of his pre-idol performances like Is Anybody Listening?, The Prayer, I Just Love You, Dust in the Wind, Quiet Desperation, Come Home, that are just awesome, but the haters, like even the author of this article, would never even bother to give Adam a chance.
Sorry, I meant #2 technically skilled rock vocalist in the world.
since the first time i saw him on idol singing satisfaction i knew he was out of this world; way to go ADAM, love you!
It takes guts to admit someone has talent when they’re not fans of that singer. Kudos to you, Simon.
I happen to like all his performance styles. From the crazy AMAs/Mardi Gras to these subtle acoustic performances. I like all kinds of music, so it’s nice that he changes things up. I’d get hella bored very fast if the acoustic performances were all he did. But I can see why some people prefer good vocals more than visual performances. I’m just not one of those people. I value both equally as much.
As for this acoustic set, it was amazing. He’s a fantastic vocalist and it showed. His voice is so beautiful voice. He’d be fool not to make an acoustic album! My favorites from this set were DTRH and Broken Open.
I agree with the kudos. It does take guts to listen honestly and openly to someone you haven’t liked in the past and admit that they are good. I see so many haters that just want to spew negativity. And not just about Adam but really about anyone who puts themselves in the public eye. So, I appreciate that you took a listen Simon and reported that you were pleasantly surprised! One little thing, though. I would have included Broken Open instead of Mad World. The vocals are absolutely exquisite.
Sounds like you never really took the time to listen – he sings everything great. What he wears and his makeup are entertaining decoration, which some people have a hard time with.
I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that Adam Lambert is a superb vocalist. I’m more surprised that they’re still making “Unplugged”!
I wish this world would get over homophobia, envy, hatred, etc. etc…What does this have to with Adam? I think a lot…It is clear that if one has the ears to hear and the eyes to see and an open heart, one can witness how talented this guy is. So the other night we were watching AI, and Paige sang, “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin. We like Paige, but we thought, this is a damn hard song to sing, vocally, emotionally. My partner said, “Michael Jackson with his pure vocals and voice did a great job.” Who else could have done it justice?? We looked at each other, “Adam!” we agreed in unison, and we smiled…Good luck Adam. You are a gift to our ears and hearts!!
I felt sorry for Paige that night. She tried to do MJ’s version of “Smile” and got too emotional. She should’ve done someone else’s version. You’re right – Adam is the only other one who could do MJ’s version justice. Also, I didn’t get the judge’s comments on this song. Charlie Chaplin’s original version of it was sad and slow – only OTHERS have tried to make it “uplifting” song.
BTW, the other night Michael Moore told Rachel Maddow that she’s a “National Treasure.” I agree! And I would also add Adam Lambert to that very short list!
A W E S O M E !! I have always loved the pureness and clarity in Adam’s voice, his singing always seems effortless. You never have to worry about him hitting a wrong note or sounding pitchy. I saw him in concert at Fantasy Springs where he sang acoustic versions of Whole Lotta Love, Mad World and Whattya Want From Me and he blew everyone away with his amazing voice. He truly has a gift from God and I am in awe of him, as an artist and as a person. How can you NOT love him?
He is amazing and he is really singing live thats what unplugged means… He is truly phenomenal…leaps and bounds above the tools on this season of idol who can’t sing at all
I just love Adam, when his music is stripped down or the over the top performances…….He is not just the best singer that has come along in a very long time, but also an entertainer to match…..
Vocally, IMO no one right now can match him….. His stage presence is mesmerizing, I have a hard time taking my eyes away from him when he performs, it like the rest of the world is tuned out…….
Hey Simon: you’ve been underestimating him all along.
Adam is an amazingly skilled and near-flawless vocalist. 3/4 of the absolute garbage on the radio right now is just a product of auto-tune and studio trickery and he is such a welcome relief. I hope more people will take a minute to listen to Adam before writing him off as a screamer (which is so technically inaccurate it makes me weep for the lack of musical education in our society). Even more impressively, he is better live which can’t be said for the majority of today’s singers. The hype around Adam is not without merit.
Adam is a very well trained vocalist and counter tenor. I am so surprised that you are surprised when his talent was yes, very obvious!! Adam also knows how to protect his vocal chords when reaching those really high notes so his voice will last for a long, long time.
Really wish EW would get someone to cover Adam who loves Adam. Slezak sort of came around to getting Adam’s talent. The qualifiers in this reporter’s article are irritating. Of course Adam was brilliant! Duh. As for what the reporter calls “over the top”–I’ll take Adam’s verve and willingness to push boundaries any day over that snoozefest that is going on during this season’s Idol. Unlike the others, Adam’s music is alive and not trying to please the homogenized, middling mall-speak crowd.
Adam can do the sensative, gentle songs and the over the top performances with such amazing charisma. He is a performing artist with one of the best voices around today. His Whole Lotta Love in Indio was down right mesmerizing. These are fantastic!
