Image Credit: Pamela LittkeyThis planet still revolves around Justin Bieber. For the second straight week (and third nonconsecutive) his My World 2.0 is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling 92,000 records.
It was a slow week on the chart: Bieber’s World is the lowest-selling album in the top spot in almost a year. The last to hold that dubious distinction was Chrisette Michele’s Epiphany, last May.
Psychedelic rockers MGMT‘s sophomore album, Congratulations, is the chart’s biggest debut, landing at No. 2 with 66,000 sold. It’s the best chart showing of their career, Billboard noted. Oracular Spectacular, their last album, never sold more than 17,000 in a week, but its steady sales have led it to a 606,000 total in the U.S.
The chart’s second-highest debut is Coheed and Cambria’s No. 5. ranking for their Year of the Black Rainbows, which sold 51,000 copies. It’s a step down from their last album, 2007′s No World For Tomorrow, which bowed at No. 6 but sold 62,000 units.
Usher, last week‘s No. 2, is now down to No. 4. His latest effort, Raymond v. Raymond, sold 64,000.
Riding off her performance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, Ke$ha‘s Animal returns to the top 10, moving from No. 16 to No. 8 with 31,000 sold.
Monica‘s Still Standing is doing just that in the top 10, holding steady 30,000 records sold at the No. 9 spot.
And Justin Bieber’s first installment of My World falls two spots No. 10 with 30,000.

MGMT you have been foiled.. by a 16 year old no less. I guess he wasn’t lying when Justin Bieber said it’s his world. Now cue the moronic trolls..
Well, considering MGMT new album has been online, for free, for about month and it sounds nothing like their first album (well the first half of it) I think this is a very solid showing.
Well J.B. does have an huge advantage in every category over MGMT due to marketing him outselling everyone right now. From TV, Radio and online. but does that make him way better than MGMT talent wise, ummm …. NO!!!
This is coming from someone who obviously dislikes JB to aggrivate people. Have you listened to JB’s CDs? And don’t spin things the way you want, JB co-writes or writes every song he has had so far. He plays guitar, piano, trumpet, drums.. don’t give me that BS that he isn’t talented. And MGMT aren’t more talented than him just because they make “unique” or “weird” music. Indie VS. mainstream pop is impossible to directly compare. And no I am not a MGMT hater actually I have their newest CD as well as the one prior. There were only two decent songs off their newest CD (which in my opinion this CD is a step back for them because they don’t want tons and tons of success). The only two good songs off their newest album are, “I Found a Whistle” and the title track “Congratulations”. I’ll give the fact “Lady Dada’s Nightmare” is interesting but nothing I’d loop on repeat. “Flash Delirium” is just to plain odd to be the lead “single” from the album. How they are calling it a single when Im’ sure none of these songs are in the top 200 is very confusing to me. Stop hating on JB just because he is #1 right now and your trying to appear cool with all your “indie” music. Both artists are amazing but it just so happens JB is better.
Interesting that I completely agree with you about the new MGMT record. And yet you are still a huge troll for stealing someone’s username. And don’t doubt for 2 seconds that all of the regular commenters on EW know you did that.
I’m pleasantly surprised to see MGMT due as good as number 2. There is some hope for cutting edge rock music, after all (I did buy both the CD and vinyl– the vinyl sounds amazing, btw!).

You know all this Bieber & his tween followers talk has got me thinking, who’s the female version? For years girls have flocked to tween senstations like the backstreet boys, nysnc, the jonas brothers, and now justin bieber. But has there ever been a female artist that has had such a large fanbase, but with boys? It doesn’t have to relate directly to the pop category, but it seems as though there is no widespread outcry over a female artist from boys all over the nation. Is it because girls are just more obsessive and prone to latch onto the next best thing? Or could it be that female vocalist focus on women as their main audience? It’s got me wondering that’s for sure….
