Green Day thrills Broadway crowd with surprise 'American Idiot' set

Green-Day-American-idiotImage Credit: Walter McBride / Retna Ltd.The cast and house band of the new American Idiot musical are doing their best to approximate the full Green Day experience for Broadway audiences every night. As last night’s show-goers learned, though, nothing beats the real thing. An EW staffer who was in attendance reports that after the final curtain call, all three actual members of Green Day climbed out of their seats in the audience and took the stage for a quick surprise set of “American Idiot” and “Basket Case.” The cast members were as psyched as anyone — one actor even stage-dived into a little crowd surfing. Sounds pretty fun.

Check out a brief, grainy YouTube clip of the excitement after the jump. Were any of you there for this? Does the (admittedly slight) possibility that Green Day might pull something like this again make you want to buy a ticket to American Idiot on Broadway?

Posted on The new Zune browser is iruprssingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I wasn’t there but I wish I was. I’d still check it out even if Green Day
didn’t play at the end. This is what is cool about GD. They always do
    stuff like this.

Why oh Why couldn’t they have done this on Tuesday night at the premier??? The play is amazing and absolutely not to be missed!!!

That’s so awesome! I’d buy a ticket to the show regardless. Too bad I live in Indiana…

I saw it last week and even without Green Day making an appearance, it was totally worth it. The show is amazing!

These guys have become a bunch of pretentious a-holes. Enough with the concept albums. Just go back to what they did on their indie albums and even Dookie and Insomniac.

i guess expanding your musical career and reaching a bigger audience is a bad thing. indie music, what a dumb label to hide behind.

So sorry to hear about this. He is from the area I have lived in (central PA) all my life but I never followed the Metal Bands. It’s kind of impossible to avoid hearing about these “reality” show contestants even if you never watch them. I’m sure the town of Mechanicsburg PA is all abuzz and hoping for the best outcome for our local home town cutie pie smart guy ♥ ♥ ♥”
I certainly hope you have a total recovery. We’re rooting for Sweetie!

Oops, I clicked on the story about Brett Michaels but somehow it posted it to the Green Day Comments.
I like them too, but I just wanted to wish Brett well.
