I find it funny that all the S/M ~ Madonna ~ Gaga related imagery is included in a song titled, ‘Not Myself Tonight.’ Deep down she knows that none of what she is doing is honesy or true to herself, but she’s forcing it out there anyway. Madge and Gaga do these things but ALWAYS claim them as part of their persona and life, I think, in an effort help others accept their own personas. Xtina is puting out an unreal facade – one that’s fake and, according to her lyrics, is only for tonight.
I think you’re giving her way too much credit.
Let us not forget either the boots used in Beyonce’s “Green Light” video.
“Green Light” was inspired by Madonna’s “Human Nature”, which also inspired “Not Myself Tonight”. So there you go.
The problem is in order to be a relevant female musician these days, you have to be a freak show and over the top sexually or no one will give you the time of day – not radio, not television. Its a problem of the machine, not the artist. Could she stand up there and just sing? No.
This has been the problem with pop music since day one: fit the template or be gone.
As for Perez, who the F cares? For someone who preaches about individuality, he sure as hell is bent on making the rest of us share his opinions about everything.
Wrong. Madonna made that template all for herself. Prior to Madonna, no self respecting pop star would present themselves in an overtly sexy image. The problem with that is that while Madonna molded it to fit her own persona, managers and record label heads saw Madonna as a template to copy for success and thus we were subjected to clones.. (britney, X-tina to an extent, etc..)
She most certainly could stand up there and sing.. people would listen and she’s got the chops to pull it off. She simply doesn’t believe in herself that much to follow through and instead ends up following the herd.
Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Christina has God given talent. A voice that no one else in the pop world has been able to touch in over a decade. Gaga is manufactured pop garbage. A gimmick hiding average looks and ability. We’ll see who is still around in another decade.
They both have good voices and I don’t think Christina is the songwriter Gaga is. Plus, clearly, Gaga has better taste in how to package herself. Christina has a good voice, but she’s hidden it with this song.
Ernie, Gaga is no Cole Porter, so her songwriting abilities are nothing to be envious of, either.
Songwriting today is not what it once was. I wish I had grown up in my parents’ generation of performer-songwriters such as Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc. – real writers who had something to say and who were actual musicians. That is why they have lasted and are respected for their artistry.

Gaga most certainly can sing and oozes talent that Christina doesn’t possess (talent to know how to best market herself for success) plus she can sing and writes her own songs. I love them both but please don’t sit there and spew ignorance out of your mouth.. it really takes away any validity your argument might have had.
It is not ignorance, it is a fact I agree with. Gaga constantly has pitch problem and has mediocre vocal ability. People who think she’s a better singer than Christina need their ears checked.
Lol go look at her acoustic live performances. Gaga has talent. She has talent and she owns her image. Christina fails on that front. Girl has no idea who she is and just follows the trends. People like Britney and Gaga SET the trends.

Christina and Gaga has the exact same voice so how can you separate them? When I first heard Lady Gaga’s Just Dance, I remember saying that I liked Christina’s new song until the radio said is was this Gaga person. They sound exactly the same. If Christina’s voice was so phenomanal, then another artist would have come along so easily with the exact range. There are singers out there that NOBODY can copy without naming names. Christina is a bore, a fake and a copycat and she’s not popular anymore. People even care more about Briney than Xtina.

Actually they are very Human Nature (Madonna ’94) which Gaga has certainly ‘borrowed’ very liberally from.
She is beyond desperate. What a rip-off artist. There wasn’t a single original thought in that video. It didn’t even take concepts and made them her own; she blatantly ripped off other videos. I mean, I saw Madonna, Lady GaGa, Shakira, Britney…but Christina? No, not at all.
So, did Christina direct this video? I’m not being a smart ass, I really want to know.
Now that I think about it, maybe she is making a comment about Lady Gaga with this song.
Given how GaGa can do no wrong in the eyes of critics, that could be akin to career suicide if you’re right. But I don’t think you are – I think she’s going through what most teen idols go through after their fans have grown up. How do you stay relevant? Mandy and Jessica haven’t. Britney had a public mental breakdown, which kept her relevant. Christina thinks that by doing something raunchy, she’ll regain relevance.
