Katharine McPhee's duet with 'Chuck' star Zachary Levi: An EW exclusive stream

terrifiedThe song “Terrified” first appeared on season-five Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee‘s Unbroken this past January, as a duet with singer-songwriter and frequent Colbie Caillat collaborator Jason Reeves.

But now, Reeves has been usurped by a certain TV super-spy turned recording artist. Hear her and Chuck star Zachary Levi’s updated version of the Kara DioGuardi-penned ballad below, several days before the pair’s video for it debuts this Friday, May 7, on Vevo:

An article about Kat McPhee on ew.com without an insult? I’m stunned.

    • Jason H.

Seriously! Is it Opposite Day? Well, this wasn’t written by SLezak. I think he has convinced himself that Kat is the antichrist.

      • Z

You mean she isn’t the Antichrist????

  • Meghan

OK, so it’s official: I have to track down Zachary Levi and MARRY HIM.

    • pj

not if i get there first!

      • MsChuckLevi

You’ll have to get through me first!

    • Rafaela

You two will have to get me down first! ;P

    • brody

No way, ladies (and/or dudes)! I totally call dibs!

      • Missy

Lol! Sorry ladies and gentlemen but he’s mine. I’d totally fight it out for him. :)

      • mel

gotta find him in europe first….just left london..or about to..heading to madrid..then milan…then a month with his friend doing whatever

    • Taryn

      sorry. THATS MY SPOT THERE.

      • S

Sorry all, but he’s MINE, MINE, MINE!!! Sarah lol

    • tookergoos20

The race is on LMAO the first one to tackle, hogtie and drag Levi to Vegas wins ROFL. Levi is dreamy if I wasn’t already married I would snag him in a heart beat if I was lucky enough to ever do so. I didn’t even know he could sing!

I smell a triple threat from Mr. Chuck Bartowsky.

    • Mal

I always thought he was to attractive to play a nerd.

      Great voice!

  • mart

Kat & Zach are awesome! Love this duet!!!

It would be nice if EW spelled Kat’s name correctly. KathArine

    • mart

Thanks for correcting the spelling of Kat’s name

    • Hope

I only recently found out Zach could sing. Beautiful voice is there anything this talented young man can’t do?

    • Will

I love Katharine McPhee I do, but I think I enjoyed Didi Benami’s vocals more on this track. That would have made a great duo with Zach. Anyone else?

      • Tom

Didi’s vocals would sound horrible on this track because she cannot sustain notes. The way she sings only works with acoustic guitar. When she sings with any track, band, and other singers it sounds bad because she has to blend which she can’t.

  • chattypatra

I like the song, but her voice overpowers his. Therefore, to me it doesn’t sound like a traditional duet where both voices are showcased.

    • Suzanne

It’s the arrangement and the mix. He should be singing the harmony by the second chorus to add musical interest.

      • brody

You’re right; it’s not well mixed.

    • CiciRose

Agreed, his voice is way too low in the mix. It’s a duet, not “featuring Zachary Levi”, he should be louder in the mix. Still a good song though.

      • Tom

The recording with Jason Reeves started with just Katharine’s vocals, but she wanted to add him to the track. This is much more of a duet than that track, so I don’t mind the mixing. We get to hear both of them sing which is great because they both sound great.

  • SF Writer

Behold the power of Zach Levi

    • pop

seriously! he can totally sell that “i am so in love with you look” – he does it weekly on chuck and even to nanny mcphee in that pic

      • MiaS

pop-you are totally right-he can sell that look like no other!

  • mart

Bought this on iTunes! Available now!

  • Al

Arrgg! I can’t get the link!

  • Dee

This is really nice,I too would have liked to hear Zach’s voice a bit more…strong vocals!good job! applause!

  • DJ Jayito

the first version of this was very nice, but this one is better. The harmonies are stronger. LOVE IT! Gonna buy it now.

  • M

They sound absolutely lovely together. The tune of the song is very melodic, but the words are just such terrible drivel – “every word feels like a shooting star?” Ugh, Kara Dioguardi.

    • Suzanne

Oh man. That’s awful. Kara Dioguardi lives on Fantasy Island.

      • brody

Is that the Fantasy Island section of Disneyland? Because that’s what that line sounds like.

  • Mike G

Beautiful sound together.I have a feeling this is some type of a bonding between them.

    • brody

If the song makes you think that, then they’re doing their job well.

  • Elizabeth

What the what is going on!? Chuck singing? I can’t handle it…

    • WhitneyD

Sorry to hear it- I’m glad to hear him sing again. He’s got a long theater background, and it’s nice to hear that his voice is still pretty darn good.

  • jeffrey33

video concept; chuck and sarah :] suits them to a “t” this song.

    • Suzanne

Yeah–it’s definitely a deal thing. And isn’t Katharine McPhee doing a pilot for NBC for next year? It’s all business.

  • Inês

love the song! zac, marrie me, me!!

  • vanillabean

Why Chuck whyyyyyyy??? Singing with wannabe barbie will destroy your cool factor. Horrible….

    • brody

Yeah, but having a great voice increases it, so maybe it balances out.
