I feel like 19 doesn’t have much interest in Kris. They promoted Adam, the runner up, to death
Maybe, just maybe, 19 is doing this purposely because they recounted the American Idol votes from last year and MAYBE they and found a discrepancy which means Adam was the winner after all???
no after 8 years I think they would count the votes correctly.. plus they reported that kris won by a large majority
American Idol and 19 aren’t the ones who keep track of the votes. They outsource the votes to a company that has done it for many years and every year they CERTIFY that the votes have been counted correctly and that the person who is announced as the winner is in fact the true winner.
Hope both Kris and Adam get some national tv promo such as Idol for their new songs. That will help a lot.
Adam got quite a bump in sales for Whataya Want From Me when he performed and mentored a couple weeks ago, enough to get him to the #10 spot on the Hot 100.
Hopefully Kris will get a good bump when he performs for the finale as well, although I’m not expecting it to be as big since TT will have less radio airplay and exposure in comparison to WWFM at that point.
Do they even count the overseas sells? If not, why not? Kris and Adam both have done wonderful over there. You Americans don’t know how lucky you are to have such great artists as these two. Along with David Cook and Daughtry, Kris and Adam are the best your Idol has ever produced!
Well, personally I like the original version much better. It would be nice if the label had more confidence in Kris, but he’s still a fairly new name in the business, so maybe they just wanted to be sure it got the exposure. I hope it does well for him in any case. Kris has a long future ahead of him – he’ll have plenty of time to showcase his own songs.
Adam has nothing to with this article. Why bring him up? Pat is a talented artist and maybe one day Kris will reach his potential. Apparently Jive felt Kris needed his help.
I know, right? It happens time and again. The trolls just can’t leave well enough alone.
Thanks for another great interview, Michael! Kris is so intelligent and talented. Not a huge fan of The Truth, but I think it’s great for radio, and I hope Kris gets another platinum top 10 hit with this one! And I can’t wait to see him on tour.
All artists have disagreements with their labels and management. Kris is smart to make the best of his opportunity, and hopefully, he’ll earn even more creative control in the future.
kris is amazing he really is and am happy that the truth is the 2nd single i don’t know pat monahan though and just because he cowrote it doesn’t mean he should be a part of it anyway kris allen fans will support him no matter what
From everything I’ve read here and on other sites, I too find it disheartening to think that Kris’s label doesn’t show more confidence in his talent. It’s a slap in the face to think they have to add Pat to make it sellable. ??? I suppose the powers that be know what they’re doing. (fingers crossed).
Just curiuos to know if anyone knows how long Kris is tied with this label?
I LOVE YOU, MICHAEL! I knew we could count on you to ask all the right questions. The Truth is a great song, and Kris sings it with his usual brilliance. Of course it will do well. If Jive had simply announced the 2nd single instead of implying on Kris’ website that they wanted the fan’s input, a lot of the drama would have been avoided. At the time they were asking for the fans’ opinion they had already sent the announcement to radio. Left people feeling stupid. Apology definitely needed from Jive for snubbing the very people who will help this single succeed.
You expect JIVE to apologise to Kris’ fans???? Are you on some kind of medication? If they have to apologise to anyone it will be to Kris for killing his career!
Thanks for the interview, Michael. And thanks for always supporting Kris and keeping up with him, his fans really appreciate that you do that
Great interview!! Thank you so much for getting the scoop. You and Kris are hilarious together, great comic chemistry! I may gush some more later, but right now I need to go back and read it again.
This song is going to do poorly I’m afraid. The label should of built on the recognition of the song “Alright with me” from the Ford commercials that are shown on Idol every week. They have really missed the ball on this and Kris will pay the price. He neds a new PR team or at least management that listens to his fans.
Some people thought LLWD would flop from the start….and we all know what happened there! So don’t count Kris out this early in the game.
I remember that, and I never understood it. LLWD is so danged catchy that, love it or hate it, it stays in your head. When it comes on the radio, it grabs you from the opening beat. The Truth is a little different because it’s more subtle and likely won’t appeal to the same people as LLWD. It is well-written and sung with the right amount of emotion, and I hope people give it a chance. Also, I hope they make a video (preferably with Pat).
I think the label wanted to go with a very different sounding song for the second single, which is why I was expecting either Before We Come Undone or The Truth. So long as The Truth does well, I fully expect Alright With Me to be the third single. I’d be really shocked if it isn’t. The sales from its exposure on the Ford commercials alone was pretty amazing.
It won’t do poorly. It will be like LLWD, slowly but surly climbing the charts. Just wish they had let the orginal stand on it’s own. Pat is ok, Kris is better by himself.
This song is going to do really well.
Fans don’t always know better. I don’t mind the new version, but I prefer the original better. I really think management did this to help promote radio play. Kris will be on the road doing shows and he will not have the time to do radio promo as he did with the original. Being a Kris fan, I think one of his co-writes would of been better, but this is the real world and Kris has not built a name for himself that radio will just add him.
I don’t care for either version of this song.
Wow an intelligent person on this article. I am with you Sandra. Who cares which version they play. It won’t matter it will still do nothing.
Thanks so much for this interview! Kris seems like a really cool guy even if he’s never watched Glee. “That’s absolutely blasphemous!” Exactly, Michael! I admit “The Truth” was not one of the songs I expected as a single, but it really is a great song. It’s one of the tracks I used to put on repeat when I first bought the CD. I actually like the way Pat’s bridge sounds. He has such a distinct voice. It was a little jarring at first because I kept expecting to hear Kris sing that part, but I think Pat’s bridge and added harmonies make the song a little more interesting. I really hope the song catches on.
Thank you for the scoop, Slezak! Kris sounds both honest and diplomatic in his answers, and sincerely appreciative of his fans.
I hope The Truth catches on radio– even half the success Live Like We’re Dying had would be great. I think it’s a great song, both versions.
aaaah I love Kris! While I’m not a huge fan of the Pat M version of The Truth, I do hope it goes on to be successful for them.
