The National, 'Bloodbuzz Ohio': Watch the acclaimed indie-rockers' new video

the-nationalImage Credit: Keith KlenowskiIf you have somehow missed the rapturous media-gasms surrounding sonorous Brooklyn rockers The National and their new album, High Violet, the video for “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” the band’s apparent first single from the album, may feel a little … anticlimactic.

But that, their many rabid fans will tell you, is part of the National’s deal; they don’t do flashy or wacky or straight-up David Lynch-ian art-shock bananas; though they do, apparently, do cameos by D.A. Pennebaker, the legendary documentary filmmaker best known for the 1967 Bob Dylan tour doc Don’t Look Back and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. See it after the jump:

Frankly, I’m a little unclear whether the video, with its pensive trench coat rambles and beardy ennui, is meant to be taken literally or as a sort of sly commentary on itself. Because on the face of it, I’m definitely getting Banana Republic ad vibes, or perhaps a commercial for New York Times Weekender subscriptions?

Anyway, I like the little fist-pump dance moves avec cocktail at the end, and I do, in fact, like the record. You?

I think the album is darn good. I’ve been a fan of them for a few years now, and they continually put out solid albums that are not the same as everyone else style other bands put out. I HIGHLY recommend it and their other albums.

The album, is brilliant and a classic.

The video, well, is one of the worst music videos I’ve ever seen. A total miss.
